How long is zherenko and Ellis going to be waiver exempt. Someone stated that on hfboards that ellis is no longer wavier exempt. So he starts with nhl team or we could lose him.
Can anyone please tell me how much time they have left and how the rules on this work

Re: Waiver exemption question.
I could explain it but it’s complicated - totally depends on the age of the player and when they signed their first contract.
Easiest thing to do is to just use one of the waivers calculators out there.

So just enter Ellis’ name and you’ll see that he has to hit 4 pro seasons played OR 60 NHL games played to be waiver eligible. He’s played 3 pro seasons and 0 NHL games. So he has 1 year left of being waiver exempt but will be waiver eligible at the start of the 2026-27 season regardless of how many NHL games he plays next season.
Both calculators I used say Zherenko has 2 of his 4 years of exemption left…but tbh, I’m not sure why. He’s played 3 seasons for the T-birds now. So I’d think he should only have 1 year of exemption left?
Not sure why that is.
