Fresh Doug Armstrong Interview w/Andy Strickland

Post by TBone »

From a couple of days ago. No one has posted it so I might as well

Advance the player to 20:40 to skip the preliminaries...

"Their Round 1 pick (Winnipeg) put the puck in the net. That's what Round 1 guys do." - Doug Army

In response to Army's sage wisdom, Strickland should have asked...
Then why did our Round 1 guys hardly put the puck in the net at Winnipeg's rink in 4 games--despite the fact that Hellebuyck couldn't stop a beach ball.

Why do you feel the need to lie? I mean seriously why?

That is such a odd comment.

No games are 12-13. Which is(my guess) on the number of first round picks in any game.

Any context.

It's so refreshing to have a GM that isn't afraid to talk to the media about things behind the curtain. Army is definitely up for GM of the year this year. If you take a look at it the only 2 that should be considered are Jim Nill, and Army. The Caps had a collaborative effort so they could get thrown in. But Nill and Army are the ones that orchestrated last years teams to this years. Army absolutely scored with the drafts, offer sheets, and Fowler trade which was the best trade pre post season and still was good in the post season. Nill can be considered since his blockbuster trade is future proof most likely.

EDIT: Can't forget the hiring of Monty and firing of Bannister. Bold move to do that in the middle of the season instantly.

Army is one heck of a GM. Glad we have him.

I am so in agreement with this. I can't stand listening to him. I also will never forgive Bernie Miklas for helping him out so much, now we are stuck with him.

I wish it was a lie too.

Thomas had 1G and 1A (if I remember correctly) in the 4 games in Winnepeg. Nothing in Game 7.

How would you characterize Thomas's contribution in Winnipeg?

I would normally agree, but this isn’t him throwing stuff at the wall on the internet, it’s straight from Army’s mouth and pretty interesting.

I've come around on Strickland after what's been a long time.

while no fave of mine he's done well for himself regardless of my opinion and it seems he has the favor of management and players alike these days.

he doesn't seem to rub people the wrong way, and if anything, gets blues to national media more often than anyone else. Maybe Ecklund but Strickland is the one that gets national talking heads talking about the Blues.

Also, I wish we got more of the post game bud light segments because he does do a genuinely good job with those. It seemed like this year he didn't quite hit the right members of the team with it where they are willing to let the camera behind the scenes. Thomas and Tkachuk drinking a couple beers and actually talking real hockey 2 years ago was definitely a bonus to the strickland camp.

That being said, this interview was really well done. Had all the right questions. Gave Army the table to basically talk. This was a 9/10 10/10 interview. And Army didn't hold anything back.

Can't help but laugh that today he dropped the Sam Bennett is a Blues target tweet.

Some people just want to beetch.

I couldn't stand Jim Rome (and still can't) but when he had certain people on I tolerated his schtick to hear the guest.
