cards doing walker no favors keeping him with big club

Post by jbrach »

the guy is totally lost at the plate...completely off balance and I dont see how it is helpful to him to subject him to this night after night...he is still young and obviously physically talented...his rookie season showed he had big time ability but right now he simply has no confidence at all...send him down and let somebody work with him to see if they get him back to being a productive player...kind of sad to watch and then there is gorman...what makes this so hard to watch is that these 2 guys were gonna be the cards slugging duo for the future

Oof, that's a thought I didn't need in my head.

If I have to worry about it so does everyone else

As I stated in another thread, if he's gonna get sent down (which he probably should by the end of this month) it should be to the developmental complex to completely overhaul his swing.

Man that’s a guy that popped in my head the other day in a “Whatever happened to that guy” thought and it had nothing to do with Walker. But thanks for that. :x

They've already tried this 4 times. What makes you think it will work the next time they confuse him with trying something new? More likely changing the swing is what broke him to begin with.

They likely did break him, but at this point what other choice do you have. Continuing on like this does no one any good. Team or player

Out of league by age 30 although he did have a tantalizing age 26 season where he suddenly and abberantly put it all together to the tune of a 128 OPS+... scary to think what his career 94 OPS+ woulda looked like without that year.

They certainly did not put him back in the developmental complex 4 times. They demoted him to AAA.

Agree 100%. Going down just to try and hit AAA pitching doesn't help. Needs to be in Jupitor to fix mechanics. All day, every day. He's talented enough to fix.

Agree. I'm not sure Norman can be fixed, but I do believe Walker can be salvaged. But I don't think it's going to happen here or in Memphis.

He's made remarkable progress as a fielder, now we need to fix his swing. It can be done.

Getting real close to sink or swim time for both Walker and Gorman.

What good would it do to send him down?

If he does well at Memphis, then it doesn't mean he'll do well when recalled and you've wasted another year.

He plays (maybe 4 games a week?) and either improves or you start prepping to move on (perhaps sometime in 2026 if he's not any better).

Gorman could be closer to the exit door.

With Donovan, Saggesse at Memphis and JJ closing in 2nd base playing time could be limited.

If NADO isn't dealt, then 3rd base is closed.

And Hererra is a superior option at DH.

C. Bloom, who has no skin in the game w/these two since they're Mo's "guys", will make the final call.

Stay tuned

Right.

And they didn't 'break' him. This is squarely on John Mozeliak for calling him up when all of the data and performance suggested that he wasn't ready. HE is the one that chose to skip steps with Walker because HE was feeling pressure.

It's tough to unwind when you mess it up this much. I agree he needs a reset, but that's a really hard thing to do.

I'm just sick over Walker's regression at this point. Seems like he's got great make-up and is an all around quality young man who deserves to succeed. Every time he is up I'm pulling for him so hard and its just not happening at all. He's done a great job making himself a solid outfielder but man oh man he is just lost with the bat. He's such an integral part of this team's future (or at least that was what we all thought) that you can't give up on him but like the above posters have said he's been sent down to Memphis before and its not helped in the least.

Just imagine how much optimism there would be for the future of this franchise if he and Gorman actually developed into their potential. I'm an eternal optimist and still think it will happen to some extent but with each passing series my optimism is fading.

One thing I would love to see that is easily within his control is to stop taking his timeout when the pitcher has already started their motion.

He does it so often that it has to be intentional -- idk trying to get in the pitcher's head? -- and it just seems [ablution]-y. Just worry about what you're doing son, leave the cute stuff to the professional trolls like Willy C.

But each time he sat for days to weeks before appearning in games to "retool his swing". He's also worked to change things up over the last 2 offseasons.
