This clown Fandango needs a traqulizer dart to the neck. Otherwise it's a semi-decent interview.
At one point Steen talks about how he loves the type of player the organization is drafting: how they're quality people as well as players. I would have loved for one of them to ask if he thinks personal attachments to players they've shepherded through the organization will be difficult to trade. Or something similar, if thinks he has a handle on the need to be calculating and detached emotionally to run an organization. They don't.
Anyway here it tis...

Coalaiacovo is wayyy easier to consistently type correctly than 'environment' which my fingers want to be spelled 'enviornment'
But you have to break the name into three parts:
1. Cola
2. "aia"
3. covo
The Cola and the covo are easy so the trick to spelling weakalinkovo's name is the 'aia' middle
Let me try this again, big fails here.
1. Col
2. "aia"
3. covo
Colaiacovo. The weak link, why we needed top pair LD for two years obsessively ... the plexiglass face smash guy

Yes. I believe he was one of a pair of
Col aia covos....
On the substance of him sort of being attached to the prospects as people that the OP raised. The danger is that attachment to individuals helps erode objectivity and that the "[number of feet in height] foot view" that the GM has to have will be compromised. Steen in this interview was open about having to learn that way of seeing things unfold in segments as opposed to game to game or week to week.
I do think he understands that who he was as a person is why he was successful in the league, so he will look for growth ability traits in the people his organization is drafting as one of the first elements. It's similar to a business plan that is looking for venture funding and the investors who are seasoned are really looking to make sure it's the right people as opposed to the right initial concept, though that is critical as well. The right people find a way to get better over time. I think Steen's organizational philosophy at its outset is focused there.

Thanks for posting.
While pretty clear he's green at this I like his demeanor and basic honesty in answering the questions.
I have to assume his philosophy for right now is very much in line with the current GM and President.
I'm not sure how long the learning curve will be but I am glad he has another year of tutelage with DA.

I knew you would post that if I referenced it lol

I will always take the opportunity to post the 2nd best hockey gif out there when the opportunity arises.
I thought that was a good interview with Steener. He’s clearly a thoughtful guy. The part I liked the most was when he talked about completely starting over in camp. All the progress made this season doesn’t carry over. At least not in the standings. You have to prove it all over again and then do even better.

Agreed on Steen. But also, you only said that about the 2d best gif so someone would ask what's the best gif and then you reply with the Jokinen gif
Dennis Wideman shootout would be up there in my eyes.
I still feel like Army from his new seat will be pushing the direction for a bit longer. I am not super worried about prospect attachment, because your scouting department for the pro's will point out objectively what is working and what is not, and Steener has a good head on his shoulders so i don't have a ton of concern about him listening to that advice.

What the hell? Ghost are real.
It's past time for a different direction. I'd rather Hitch, Army and the rest of the suckabist get down the road. But bonuses are due.
As for our draft picks. I don't know. They clearly don't believe in the old hockey live by, about skaters, shooters, and checkers.
Because shooters can't shoot, skaters can't skate when every picks first offensive trait is to check.
It can make one look like a genius picking the most talented grinders. Most top offensive grinders will find a nhl role. Not the same for shooters, or skaters. For them it's top 6 or the A.

I'm not sure why the Blues decided to name Steen the GM in waiting. Maybe someone in the ownership group has a thing for succession planning? Remember the Mike Yeo situation? I've been a part of a lot of succession planning exercises and they are good to do, but they sometimes don't pan out, and I don't understand the need to make the Steen plan public.
As far as I know, at this point Steen has never negotiated a contract, made a trade or planned a roster. Army will still be in his current job as President of Hockey Operations (without the additional GM title) for the next five years or so and will be Steen's boss. My guess is the first year Steen will handle some lower level contract issues, be a voice in roster building and player development, and do some interviews with the press. I guess I don't understand a the fuss at this point.
I won't post it, because I was part of the great GIF ban of, what was that, 2009?, but while those two are the undisputed champs, the Blackhawks ice girl booty has to get a vote here.

Guilty as charged.
Agreed the Wideman is up there. As is this one of Bergy.
Meet the new face of Doug Armstrong, folks. His name is Steen.
Armstrong is even less accountable now. Armstrong can sell his snake oil behind closed doors now.
Trust Armstrong on one thing: Expect nothing flashy. Expect no flashy new prospect, no flashy new 2C, no flashy offer sheet, and definitely no flashy re-whatever. The goal is simply a 5% increase at year end. Progress will be assessed at year-end---next year.
I strongly recommend that you don't watch the flashy prospects being added to rosters in other cities. You don't need that. Remember that.
