Herrera and the lineup
Well... I know the Nats are not a top tier team and the guy on the mound was having control issues... but this is an entirely different team with Hererra in the middle of the order:) It totally changes the feel of the order. We can have threads about who hits where, but I think it is pretty clear how much longer this lineup is with IH somewhere in the 2-5 hole. Swapping him for Burly or Baker.... he changes the whole feel of things. Yeah, I know it was just one game, but getting that kid back in the middle of things.... yeah.
I thought the team did an excellent job of fundamental ball. Sac flies, working the count and taking the walks... Lot of selfless team oriented ABs. Good to see. Geez Donnie just puts the ball in play pretty much every time, except when he takes his walk. Always liked watching him hit.

Re: Herrera and the lineup
Needs to get 90% of the DH plate appearances as long as he's healthy.
The h e l l w/Burleson (he can spell WillyC at 1st base once a week) or Gorman (he can head to Memphis as far as I'm concerned).
Ivan needs to DH!

Re: Herrera and the lineup
This is a very talented athlete. I sort of hate to see him become one dimensional as a DH but I also realize he is not our strongest catcher option. Wondering if in offseason they might switch him to another position? RF? Please don’t say 1B as we try to slot everyone and their uncle in that position.
Just asking.

Re: Herrera and the lineup
Yes, an interesting repeat of that age old problem of where to hide the kid with the bat.... He can catch now and then, but he cannot throw worth a darn. Traditionally, 1B and LF are where you hide guys. Will be interesting to see what they do. You want a strong arm in RF so you slide Noot over. But we are talking next season. IH will DH a lot this season.Jatalk wrote: ↑10 May 2025 08:29 am This is a very talented athlete. Re: Herrera and the lineup
Possibly, Herrera DH batting at #6 and Burleson RF batting #7 vs RHP. It will be interesting if it's Gorman or Burleson in today's lineup.rockondlouie wrote: ↑10 May 2025 08:22 am Needs to get 90% of the DH plate appearances as long as he's healthy.

Re: Herrera and the lineup
The whole point is that the lineup is FAR better with IH in there instead of Burley. I would let IH hit against anyone until he proves he cannot. Maybe that is by next week or maybe he just hits pretty much every day from now on (with the odd day off).Shady wrote: ↑10 May 2025 09:45 amPossibly, Herrera DH batting at #6 and Burleson RF batting #7 vs RHP.rockondlouie wrote: ↑10 May 2025 08:22 am Needs to get 90% of the DH plate appearances as long as he's healthy.

Re: Herrera and the lineup
Burleson's hitting helped win three out of the last five games. Oli seems to like Burleson in the lineup against RHP. This is around the time Burleson "heated up" last season.bccardsfan wrote: ↑10 May 2025 09:47 amThe whole point is that the lineup is FAR better with IH in there instead of Burley. Re: Herrera and the lineup
Yes he does. I still let IH hit against anyone. His ABs are going to come at the expense of Gorman and Burley unless he is catching. With the bone bruise (and his arm), he should not catch much for a bit so he can heal.riff raff wrote: ↑10 May 2025 09:55 amOli has a better choice nowShady wrote: ↑10 May 2025 09:51 amBurleson's hitting helped win three out of the last five games. Re: Herrera and the lineup
I agree. Let Herrera get a good long run at DH. Arguably our weakest 'position' all season.bccardsfan wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:01 amYes he does. I still let IH hit against anyone. Re: Herrera and the lineup
Yes, the kid can hit. Screw the splits. Let him hit daily against anyone and if starts struggling, then adjust the lineup.riff raff wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:09 amI agree. Hererra needs to DH at least 90% of the time.
Walker needs to play in RF this season to see if he sinks or swims.
Burleson will get a game every week or two at 1st base to give Willyc a day off, another in RF when Walker needs a day off and (maybe) 5% of the DH PA's.
He then needs to be tossed into any big trade deal (Helsley or Fedde oe ???) because he's become a redundant player w/no position or place in the batting order due to his lack of power and upside.
I know you're a fan but Burleson's time here is limited.
Once Oli's gone, he will be too if not sooner.

Hererra is the DH...........WillyC is the 1st baseman...........Walker is the player in RF w/potentally a higher upside they have to give playing time to.
Burleson could go somewhere else, not sure why the BoSox haven't been calling for a one year replacement at 1st base.
Re: Herrera and the lineup
As you know, Oli seems to like Burly in the lineup vs RHP. And the way the Cardinals are playing Oli could return. 2+2=4.rockondlouie wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:47 amToday he could play but he has no future here.Shady wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:43 amLet's see what the lineup looks like today.rockondlouie wrote: ↑10 May 2025 10:34 amNopeShady wrote: ↑10 May 2025 09:45 amPossibly, Herrera DH batting at #6 and Burleson RF batting #7 vs RHP.
