Final PK/5v6 Thoughts
I’ve always thought that the Blues were way too passive over the years…and especially this year on their PK and 5v6 kills. I’ve also thought that the teams that played more aggressive against the Blues when the Blues were on the PP or with a 6v5 advantage were way more successful against us and gave the Blues the most difficulty when we had the man advantage. For this reason alone, I’d like to see the Blues make changes so that they are more aggressive on the PK and when playing 5v6. I think it fits better into the overall team style of play and culture they are trying to establish rather than playing aggressive for most of the game but going into a passive shell when those situations arise. I realize that you need a certain personal to be aggressive and attack…like having Holloway type towards up top…and defenseman who possess a long reach with big bodies down low…but..if the Blues are building themselves to be a no-nonsense organization that’s extremely tough to play against…they must never take their foot off the peddle or the throat of their opponent…and continue to pressure and attack them while on the PK or while playing 5v6…passive play and prevent defense doesn’t work…and helps to not only lose games but drastically change momentum within games when you play that way…IMO
