Pozo
Oli.... you are sleeping again. Pedro Pages is a fine player to have as a b/u catcher, but he is not an everyday player. I have no problem with him getting more of a starters load while Herrera is out, but he doesn't need to start 4 games+ in a row in 4 days.

You have a b/u on the bench who has swung a pretty good stick since coming up.
You have a terrible habit of falling in love with marginal players.

Re: Pozo
Agreed. Pozo was hitting and looked ok on D. Pages has been slumping, but he does look really good in the field right now. Pozo should get a start once or twice a week until IH returns. Re: Pozo
IMHO, shoud have been 50/50 Pages and Pozo while Herrera is out. It has been 16 Pages and 5 Pozo.
It was a chance to get a look at Pozo, which is what this year is all about. The manager passed on the chance to get a good look at Pozo.
He decided to overexpose Pages instead and he responded with a .196 .220 .232 .452 line.
Pozo is at .304 .333 .565 .899 but of course it has remained a small sample size due to lack of opportunities.
It is what it is.

Re: Pozo
Also, with Herrera having a knee injury, Pozo could stay on the team when he returns.
Burleson or Baker could be sent down so Herrera can DH.

Re: Pozo
Pozo is in his 12 season as a professional baseball player.
He is 28 in another month.
There is nothing for the Cardinals to learn or evaluate.
Nothing.
Crooks is pretty much MLB ready right now.
Bernal will be in another 15 months or so.
Behind them are Rodriguez and Campos.
Reality is Pozo offers nothing more than injury insurance and rest days for Pages.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.

Re: Pozo
Mel
My OP never insinuated that Pozo was a prospect or needed to be evaluated.
The premise is that a below replacement level player like Pages doesn’t need to catch 4 games in 4 days.
Marmol has an affinity for average players who smile and cheer well.
This isn’t about Pozo.

The only other possible reason for Pozo is
If Herrera is going to have decreased catch time for
Whatever reason post injury or more DH time.

But Pages has to start these games because he's was/is the best option to stop the running game of first the Brewers and now the Reds.

I'd be somewhat surprised if the two weren't very close.
Re: Pozo
I too would like to see more of Pozo.
I don't understand why He hasn't been given a MLB look see by previous organizations.
Being 28 years old is not really a problem.
Four or Five years of production would be great if he turns out to be a good hitter and ok catcher.
From what little I have seen of his arm and catching seems he has a strong arm and quick release.
Haven't seen anything alarming with his defense.
As for Herrera, it seems he may have a long term problem with stolen bases and defense.
I think he is best suited for first base long term. That's for another thread though.
