Winnipeg's Take: Blues take advantage of lifeless Jets in Game 3 rout

Post by Spyro Gyra »

You could’ve turned your TV off after the first period.

“We lost the game in the first period. They scored two goals in the first three minutes, got on our heels, crowd got behind them,” Scott Arniel told reporters after the Winnipeg Jets lost 7-2 to the St. Louis Blues in Game 3. “We were terrible in the first period. Game was over in the first."

Terrible might be even putting it mildly.

In the first five minutes and change, St. Louis had a 2-0 lead and Winnipeg hadn’t even recorded a shot. The Blues were harder on pucks, winning more battles and forechecking relentlessly. The Jets? Lifeless.

There were sprinkles of Déjà vu from Game 1, where Winnipeg looked like a deer in headlights for the first 10 minutes.

Is this really a contending D group

Josh Morrissey — Neal Pionk

Dylan Samberg — Luke Schenn

Logan Stanley — Colin Miller

From the linked article:

The Morrissey-Pionk pairing was… ugly. They were outshot 7-0 during their 7:25 minutes during five-on-five play — all but one of which were scoring chances — while being hemmed in, continuously, on the forecheck.

• I’m somewhat surprised Arniel didn’t keep Schenn and Stanley together, given how well they fared in Game 2. That said, St. Louis’ speed burned the Jets, and if those two were together, it wouldn’t have been pretty.

Truthfully it easily could be the Blues up 2-1 or 3-0 if they got some breaks. They have outplayed the Jets.

If Kyrou scores on that breakaway in Game 1 to make it 4-2, the Blues are likely up in this series. While Game 2 was a one goal game, that one seemed much more in WPG's control.

Ideal situation to be playing with house money and no pressure to begin with. If you are a Jets fan you are really uncomfortable with the cascade of negatives from last night. The total loss of poise was obvious, and they are highly aware of the danger zone they are now in. Hey Lana. Danger zone.

What did they say on the broadcast about Faulk? Was at the game and thought he was totally done- not putting weight on it.

I've been reading the Jets HF board. First off for the vast majority of posters they are good dude fans.

But I was surprised because prior to Thursday night game their threads expressed surprise that the Blues were not putting up the fight they expected for games 1 and 2. They saw those games as typical Jet wins with typical Jet superiority. They did not see what Blues fans saw for 2/3rds of each game.

Anyway that all changed after Thursdays game.

All of those fans were pretty disgusted with the Jet performance and one can read the into the 60 page thread the fan concern that the Jets and Helly getting rolled here could well spell trouble for this series.

Blues are down 2-1 so usually this is not an "all even" situation but I can tell you if the Blues even up on Sunday....a mighty big "if"......there's going to be a total crash on that fan board.
