Your Friends & Neighbors
Apple TV has done it again … another excellent show.
Jon Hamm plays the role of a rich financier & socialite who loses it all and resorts to stealing from his neighbors. Then you also have the dynamic of his cheating ex-wife, shacked up with his good friend and a former NBA star. Also his sister with mental health struggles that he is helping. A lot more too than I care to even touch now.
The production values are high as always, and the character development on this one is really well done. Good stuff, check it out

Agree with both of you. Along with Paradise, this is shaping up to be an all-time great.
I'm ashamed to admit I haven't watched Mad Men, but Jon Hamm is outstanding. I live not too far from a superficial burg like Westmont Village, so Mrs. Vinny and I find Your Friends & Neighbors especially entertaining.

This show is on my list to watch, so nice to hear it is worth it. Regarding Mad Men, not my favorite. I have some friends who think it is the greatest show in the history of the television, but I think it is just okay. I feel it was somewhat a one-trick pony, and was a lot of the same things over and over and over again. BUT - Hamm was good in it, there were a lot of really good performances. IMO - a little overrated.I'm ashamed to admit I haven't watched Mad Men, but Jon Hamm is outstanding. 100%, she is a smoke show. Not for nothing, Aimee Carrero is just stunning
I have watched every episode, and really like the show. You feel for Coop (Hamm) because man he has been through it, but also you kind of don't, because he was an a**hole wall street bro who was part of that culture that now he is stealing from. It's an interesting concept, but you wonder how many episodes/seasons they can do with this? Guessing two, maybe three seasons? I do like the cast, and Olivia Munn will never not be hot.

I completely understand your take, but I’m rooting for him. Especially after the most recent episode. And Mr. Drummond, I hate. (You’ll get the reference)FrankTheTank wrote: ↑07 May 2025 14:26 pm100%, she is a smoke show. Not for nothing, Aimee Carrero is just stunning

Spoiler
I have to think now they’re gonna go after him and not let him rip them off on that painting. All the hard work to steal that and he’s just gonna keep the money? After trying to sexually assault his partner and having him jumped in the middle of the street? [fork] that man

Spoiler, I guess… why would he even be coming back for them? Seems like he would just move on with his life and a free Lichtenstein, but the character is written as a lunatic…so I guess that tracks.DJ Davis wrote: ↑10 May 2025 14:13 pmI completely understand your take, but I’m rooting for him. I’m mostly enjoying the show, but the sisters character is awfully contrived. Feels like they wrote her in, and chose “mental health issues” over “token gay family member”.

I think you nailed it, the guys just nuts. And if he’s doing psychedelics and blow, you know…Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑10 May 2025 22:19 pmSpoiler, I guess… why would he even be coming back for them? I also agree about the sister. Her going to the gym to stalk her ex-husband seemed a little over the top. And then he shows up to her music show, so he’s playing into it too, which I found a little bit odd. If he thinks she’s a psycho, one would assume he’d know better than to do that.
Re: Your Friends & Neighbors
Maybe it’s just me, but I find the sister interesting. She clearly has issues but she’s grounded in reality, so that’s a fine lineDJ Davis wrote: ↑11 May 2025 09:39 amI think you nailed it, the guys just nuts. Re: Your Friends & Neighbors
The VO narration kills it. Hamm is a good actor, but his VO sounds like a librarian reading to first graders about a midlife crisis.
Seriously, 20+ years after The Sopranos, The Wire, The Shield, etc. how do grown-ups watch this and think it's ok?

Re: Your Friends & Neighbors
I'm lagging behind the rest of you. SPOILER AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN"T WATCHED AND PLAN TO. Just finished the episode where he was about to take the NBA title ring from the guy who is banging his wife when the gun cocks to end the episode.
Don't spoil it but we stopped after the episode last night and will pick it back up later in the week. I have three theories on who finds him: it has to be the smoke show housekeeper, the guy himself or Lou, who seems to be rather stalky. I'll circle back after I watch to see which door it was.
I'm a pretty big tennis guy and either Hamm has a really nice tennis game or CGI/AI is hard at work. Can't really tell. I guess I could google Jon Hamm tennis but I'll be non cynical and say "nice game."

You just described how I feel about White Lotus. I fail to see any redeemable qualities in that series.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑18 May 2025 22:56 pm The VO narration kills it. Hamm is a good actor, but his VO sounds like a librarian reading to first graders about a midlife crisis.

Re: Your Friends & Neighbors
Without spoiling anything I have an actor question. I will look it up in a bit. You will have had to watch Severance to understand my question.
Is the Andre the Giant sized actor who played the guy in Severance who was prominently featured in the last episode of S2 the art dealer in Friends and Neighbors? It could just be two random gigantic human being actors, and like I said, I'll look it up eventually but maybe one of you knows.

Re: Your Friends & Neighbors
I loved the finale, and I think they 100% stuck the landing. I was wondering what was going to happen, how he was going to get out of it, and I think the way they went made some sense. I loved it, and I think what a strong finale does is really cements the entire season, and makes me excited for season 2.
