The Rehearsal
Season 2 of The Rehearsal starts this Sunday (April 20). Between 'Nathan For You', 'The Curse', and 'The Rehearsal', Nathan Fielder is definitely cornering the market in cringe weirdness on television. Looking forward to this one.

Between The Rehearsal, Righteous Gemstones, and The Last of Us, it feels like when HBO was the go-to cable channel for prestige shows on Sunday nights in the early 2000s.

Re: The Rehearsal
Nathan For You is one of the craziest, funniest, cringiest, weirdest, shows ever on TV. I loved it. The episode where he turned the Realtor into the Ghost Friendly Realtor was genius, and laugh out loud funny. I have watched that episode numerous times.
Re: The Rehearsal
Most memorable ep for me was the gas rebate hike up the mountain. I have trouble distinguishing in my memory between N4U and Rehearsal.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 09:50 am Nathan For You is one of the craziest, funniest, cringiest, weirdest, shows ever on TV. He's undeniably brilliant and hilarious, but I found the concept got a little boring/repetitive after awhile. I'm really curious to know what he's like in real life... I'd love to have a casual drink with him.

Yeah, the fact that he was rather cruelly pranking these small business-owners (or at least, seemed to be) didn't always sit well. But, boy, sometimes that show landed perfectly. The haunted house episode it probably my favorite.3dender wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 11:05 amMost memorable ep for me was the gas rebate hike up the mountain. Except for the finale, of course, which I think is just miraculous. One of the best last episodes ever.

I posted this in the "what are you watching thread" but I watched episode 1 last night. Dude performs a masterclass on what he does, his genre of comedy. I laughed out loud numerous times. I cannot imagine having Nathen Fielder over to your house, or around you anywhere, watching you, while he has that computer strapped to him, is anything less than the weirdest, most awkward, moment of your life. That poor pilot, his entire relationship discussion was gold.

Am I a ninny for being constitutionally averse to yet another zombie take (The Last Of Us) ? The weird thing is, I'm a sucker for apocalyptic/dystopian themes - but they have to have at least a shred of plausibility - because I don't find the prospect of dire times ahead, at least if we think far enough ahead, outlandish.todd-parker wrote: ↑16 Apr 2025 08:24 am Season 2 of The Rehearsal starts this Sunday (April 20). All those others sound really interesting.

Re: The Rehearsal
The Last of Us is based on one of the most popular video game series of all-time, and technically they aren't zombies, as far as "back from the dead" Walking Dead variety, they have brain worms, for lack of a better term. ha What separates it, IMO, is the story, and HBO nailed the casting with really great actors. The storyline (both in the game and in the show) is what truly separates it from being just another Fear, or Walking, or Black Summer, or Z Nation...I mean the list goes on and on. Also, it has Pedro Pascal in it, and he is barely in anything these days!Am I a ninny for being constitutionally averse to yet another zombie take (The Last Of Us) ? Thanks, Frank. I figured this show had to have something special about it.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑24 Apr 2025 09:42 amThe Last of Us is based on one of the most popular video game series of all-time, and technically they aren't zombies, as far as "back from the dead" Walking Dead variety, they have brain worms, for lack of a better term. ha What separates it, IMO, is the story, and HBO nailed the casting with really great actors. I'll check it out. My main problem, conceptually, w/ such shows is that the 'adversary' is dehumanized, and thus rendered more of an automaton, absent agency, rendering the conflict flat - also a thin allegory for all the people we can't stand categorically (pick your poison/team), so a veiled murderous wish fulfillment vehicle - sneaky, and again, dehumanizing. Which of course allows them to be exterminated, much as we'd exterminate bugs. Its sloppy. I'll check out an episode and see if it resonates.

Like The Walking Dead, there are also plenty of adversarial conflicts between humans as well. Just saying.MikoTython wrote: ↑24 Apr 2025 15:41 pmThanks, Frank. Re: The Rehearsal
He is seriously the best comedian, in terms of TV, on the scene and has been for some time.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025 13:17 pm I posted this in the "what are you watching thread" but I watched episode 1 last night. I truly wonder what he’s like if you were to personally know him. I thiiink his on-camera persona is an act, but I can’t be completely sure about that.
Episode one was hysterical, especially what he did in terms of the pilot and his girlfriend. And what is the budget for this show? Completely rebuilding the Houston airport terminal? Uncanny.
Re: The Rehearsal
Just watched Ep 2. Holy [shirt].
Spoiler
Framing Paramount+ as Nazis for removing the Nathan For You Summit Ice episode. I remember having to search around for that one when I was catching up on that show. The map of Europe spreading with the Paramount logo like the Third Reich taking over. My God. But also acknowledging how ridiculous the bit all is. Masterclass.

Brilliant stuff, even my 15yo son understood exactly what he was doing with that mapDJ Davis wrote: ↑28 Apr 2025 20:44 pm Just watched Ep 2. Holy [shirt].

A big part of the pleasure of this show for me is trying to figure out how much is scripted v. actually real. I suspect it's a lot more than he tries to let on (which doesn't make it any less brilliant imo).

Re: The Rehearsal
Where does he find these people? The pilot who openly talks about being banned from every dating app and Instagram? ha ha ha ha
HBO must just give him a blank check and hope for the best. When he got that 3 score, he looked so defeated. He was trying so hard to be extra nice, but yet, it didn't matter. I would also love to know what he is like to hang out with, I imagine his sense of humor being as dry as possible, but also wondering how much is a bit. He is one of a kind for sure, and the cringe is level 10.

Re: The Rehearsal
This is why I think more of it than people expect must be scripted. What are the odds of him finding a maniac like that out of ten people he invites to his studio bar? And then what are the odds that he will have exactly that ridiculous convo with the one woman Nathan identified as especially kind and likable, the first time he meets her in Nathan's simulation? I think they have to be actors.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑29 Apr 2025 09:53 am Where does he find these people? Also the last scene of the ep with the "6" that he turned into a "9"... stuff like that is too perfect to have been left to chance imo.

Re: The Rehearsal
Episode 3. Maybe the most bizarre episode of television I have ever watched in my life. I laughed out loud numerous times, and was shocked at what I was watching. If you haven't watched it yet, and you are reading this, stop what you are doing and go watch it. I can't wait to hear your opinions/feedback.
It is wild in every way imaginable and Fielder is at the top of his insane, wild, tripping on acid, game.

During that one 2-3 minute section - you know the one - I laughed harder and more continuously than I have at any television show maybe ever.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑09 May 2025 10:03 am Episode 3.
