I go to watch superstars and future HOf caliber players or a legit WS contender. I used to feel the Cardinals had both. Now they have neither so I stay home.

There is a potential storm issue about the end of the game, so walkups were probably few today. Overall, I agree that the Cardinals leadership is smug and arrogant and dis-appreciated the fanbase.

This offseason was a masterclass in how to make sure your fanbase can't get excited for the upcoming season. Obviously you can sell people on big additions of star players via trade or FA. You can even sell them (granted to a lesser extent) on trading vets for young up & coming players & giving them some runway. It's really hard to sell people on "we just gonna run back with virtually the same team that hasn't made the playoffs in 2 years minus the one FA that was making any money".

If you were intentionally trying to tank attendance you'd have a hard time coming up with a better strategy.

That number is suspect at best.

In the NFL local broadcasts are blacked out if a certain percentage of the home seats are not sold prior to game time. Many a team, including my Beloved Dolphins, purchase the tickets themselves to make darn sure their games are broadcasted.

Wonder if same rule applies in baseball. If so, what that number tells me is that 20 K tickets must be sold to avoid being blacked out. There is nowhere near 20 K in or even near the Stadium. The team very well may be buying them themselves to avoid being blacked out.

Would love to know how many eyeballs or households have been streaming the games via FanDuel/MLB etc.

No, there is no blackout in MLB like the NFL. The tickets sold are mostly corporate tickets which companies just buy at the beginning of the season to give to clients/employees. They may not get all the tickets given out which leads to there being noticeably less fans in attendance vs. tickets sold. Or they're season tickets & people just don't attend every game.

Blackouts only work in the NFL because the games are on free TV, you can't sell fans the "Fanduel subscription model" & then blackout games.

2 things. I'm guessing the season ticket sales are around 20,000. And, (I'm streaming), the cable/streaming sales pitch has NEVER said anything about "game broadcast pending game attendance" or similar. Not buying it.

Did some digging. While MLB has the most restrictive blackout rules they do not appear to be dependent on ticket sales.

Yes and this is how I have gone to Cardinal games for free for a very long time. The wife retired. No free tickets.
