VSII / Siani Defense

Post by Basil Shabazz »

Is Siani a better CF defensively than Scott? If so, by how much? Is the difference glaring or minimal?

I personally feel that if Siani is better defensively in CF that it is not by much as they both have GG ability IMO.

Thus, I don't feel it justifies displacing your starting CF to RF for a defensive replacement late. Siani to RF would accomplish the same thing IMO.

I am sure this topic is viewed as not important to a lot because the overall impact on the field is nonexistent. But, I think it does matter to Scott who I am sure takes great pride in his CF defense.

I am on the record as being a poster that thinks Siani shouldn't be on the MLB roster. I would have gone w/ Barrero. I think Barrero as a PR and defensive replacement in RF yesterday would have accomplished the same as Siani. Also, Barrero has the ability to play SS, have a little pop, and bat RH.

While I'd give the edge to Siani (Top 4% defender in CF) in jumps, range & reads, VSII's superior SPRINT SPEED allows him to make up for a lot of that edge (IMO).

VSII Sprint Speed:
30
Ranks in the Top 1% of all of MLB

M. Siani Sprint Speed:
28.3
Ranks in the Top 24% of MLB

Sinai also has an above average, but not great arm.

I think they're close to equal when it comes to arm.

VSII is potentially a game changing everyday player, Siani is a nothing more than a fourth OF'er used for late inning defense.

Barrero could PR and play RF.

But unlike Siani, you may not want to underutilize Barrero in this role.

The org obviously wants to give a long-ish look to the current players on the roster. Which means Barrero is buried on the bench.

He's better off getting regular ABs in AAA and remaining fresh.

Thanks Rock, was looking at sprint speeds also. I know they don't have that many speed samples on VS11 yet, but was thinking he had close to some 32'/sec. burst last year, but not sure. Am pretty sure I saw some +31'/sec. burst last year. Was trying to find if they had a sprintcast speed on his catch last night but didn't find one. Also always nice to find out how many seconds that ball was in the air but couldn't find that either.
As far as the difference between Siani and VS11 defensively, guess we need to see more first, but at this point think it's minimal.

I 100% agree with you.
Leave Scott and Walker alone as much as possible this year.
Barrero could have pinch ran and have been done for the night too.

Siani must go!

One thing that always comes to mind when people say Siani is a gold glove defender and better than Victor.

Victor has a Gold Glove on his shelf
Siani does not.

We should have signed Harry Bader for the 4th outfield role.

In my mind siani is definitely better. Scott has great pitential defense, bzt he really didnt make that many amazing defensive plays last season whem he was up while making a few clear mistakes. He has the ability to be better cuz of speed but siani definitely reads the ball better. Now theatetically that should be true in rf as well. As fir if it messes with scott to be displaced? I feel thats speculation. Many teams wont shift the starter over for the bsckup evem if backup is vetter fielder. I cluld go either way on this issue but if scott is okay with it(we have no idea what his thoughts are), then shifting him is fine.

100% correct. No sense pushing him up to be on bench.

As far as Siani or Scott, I’m good with either one. I’m not sure Siani could have made that play Scott did.

It had a 60% catch probability and Siani was basically a top 3 defensive CF last season. Let’s be serious.

But doesn’t Scott have better speed and range? Just asking.
