Slightly OT: Any Sabrina Carpenter fans?
I livestreamed her performance from Glasgow - apparently she was pretty sick beforehand - but she totally killed it. Reminded me a little bit about how tough some hockey players are with everything that they play through. I never really understood why hockey players can play through crazy injuries but basketball and baseball players don't. Is that just a hockey thing, or are there other sports where the players routinely play through bad injuries?

Sorry, never heard of her. Perhaps folks who frequent the Pop Off forum would know her?Emma bleeds blue wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 10:25 am I livestreamed her performance from Glasgow - apparently she was pretty sick beforehand - but she totally killed it. Both of my daughters love her, but as an old fart, I’m annoyed by the wildly expensive concert tickets.
Hockey players are the toughest, followed by football players (not taking rugby into account here). Baseball players are probably the softest, although soccer players and even basketball players (some) are pretty close.

I love concerts and try to go to as many as possible, but quite frankly the cost of going to them is becoming prohibitive.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:33 am Both of my daughters love her, but as an old fart, I’m annoyed by the wildly expensive concert tickets.

I got my ticket for her Nashville show later this year at $350. Definitely expensive.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:52 amI love concerts and try to go to as many as possible, but quite frankly the cost of going to them is becoming prohibitive.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:33 am Both of my daughters love her, but as an old fart, I’m annoyed by the wildly expensive concert tickets.

Jack, my daughters both paid roughly the same, and just for basic tickets. Good tickets, but nothing special. The fees are especially outrageous. No idea how they can charge so much for ticket fees……it should be illegal!TheJackBurton wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 12:03 pmWow. That is simply insane, but I guess if the demand is there.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 12:08 pmJack, my daughters both paid roughly the same, and just for basic tickets. Fees? Don't even get me started on fees. I was looking at Cards home opener tickets (since there are so many available) and found some good bleacher seats for 64 a ticket, so two ticket 128. When I got to checkout the total was 204.56. 64 dollars in fees and taxes for 2 tickets. I was stunned for a second, cancelled my purchase and decided if it's a nice day will just go downtown and buy from a scalper with cash, no fees.

Just don't get political!

Lots of good local music and music from lesser-known artists at a number of smaller venues around town. My fiancé and I frequently hit up shows at places like Off Broadway, Old Rock House, City Winery, The Factory, as well as some of the bars in the area who feature live music. Of course it's not going to the popular stuff heard on the radio, but good music is good music regardless. And for way less $ than the big acts!TheJackBurton wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:52 amI love concerts and try to go to as many as possible, but quite frankly the cost of going to them is becoming prohibitive.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:33 am Both of my daughters love her, but as an old fart, I’m annoyed by the wildly expensive concert tickets.

Musicians are all getting the giant shaft from all the streaming companies. It is a joke.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:52 amI love concerts and try to go to as many as possible, but quite frankly the cost of going to them is becoming prohibitive.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 11:33 am Both of my daughters love her, but as an old fart, I’m annoyed by the wildly expensive concert tickets.

The Superstars are still making bank, but its a hard candy Christmas for everyone else.
I agree with your rankings, although football players are a VERY close second-place. If they had to deal with double-edged (the inside AND outside edges of each blade are only millimeters apart but they cut like two separate knives) skate cuts and 90 mph frozen slabs of vulcanized rubber and stick blades used errantly or intentionally for havoc.... it might be even.
Where are the Ryan O'Reillys and Craig McTavishes of the NFL? Who, other than kickers and punters, even wears a single bar faceguard anymore?
The Old-Timers will get a large kick out of this. Jurgenson's lack of teet and obvious dentures are a testament to the gits and insane code among the players in those days.

Yes I go to many at the Factory, haven't been to the Old Rock House or City Winery. Most bars are just cover bands.SRV1990 wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 12:17 pmLots of good local music and music from lesser-known artists at a number of smaller venues around town. I'm talking average ticket price overall. What used to be a 15 dollar ticket is now getting to the 35-45 dollar range. What used to be the 50 dollar tickets are now 90-100.
I understand that touring and selling merch is the #1 way these bands are now making money, so I get it, but I do miss the days of seeing a band at a someplace like the firebird with two opening acts for 18 dollars. I'd go to 2 or 3 of those every 2 weeks, especially during the summer.

I tend to get Sabrina Carpenter confused with Gracie Abrams -- but I really enjoy both of them. Please Please Please is a fun track.Emma bleeds blue wrote: ↑13 Mar 2025 10:25 am I livestreamed her performance from Glasgow - apparently she was pretty sick beforehand - but she totally killed it. Just an anecdote, really, but this thread reminds me of the decision process before buying tickets to see Paul McCartney at Busch in 1993.
I waffled back and forth, trying to justify in my mind the high price - but it’s Paul Frickin’ McCartney! I said, this guy isn’t gonna live forever, so we’re going!
I paid the $36 per ticket.
