Upcoming Must Win Games to make the playoffs

Post by hockey jedi »

We have one game left against Vancouver and Utah, who are in the second wildcard hunt. Absolutely no three point games. Obviously those are must win four-point games, meaning you gain two points on each team and eliminate one game for them to get points. = 4 points

You have to win your games against lesser opponents. We have three games against Nashville, two against Anaheim, two against Pittsburgh, and single games against Seattle, Chicago and Montreal. = 20 points

Then we need to play .500 hockey and no three point games in the three games against Los Angelas, two games against Colorado, and single games against Detroit, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Minnesota, Washington and Dallas. = 11 points

That gives us 95 points and puts us knocking at the door.

And thats exactly how I see Army’s wishlist playin out, to some degree.

The Blues are about to go on a semi-run…not good enough to knock down the door to the wildcard spots, but good enough to get into the conversation and will be knockin on the door the rest of the season, and more to Army’s hopes n dreams…to knock us out of drafting top 10, and into the 12 to 16 position, just (bleep) enough to make us draft a consolation kid in the lower talented tier, buttttttt, at keast everyone can brag that we came THIIIIIIIS close to gettin in the playoffs this year, and next year we’re REALLY gonna get em. GO TEAM GOOOOO!

Watch it play out, it’s going to be glorious! And everyone can rejoice and toss platitudes with effervescent attitudes, proclaiming ‘we didnt tank! We didnt tank! We barely had an over .500 record, but we didnt tank! Let them other LOSERS draft high end difference makin talent, we’ll continue to draft our little engine’s that could, who outperform their draft rankings in 4 years, cause we’re the St Louis Blues! The team that Bobby Bassen once captained to mediocrity! LETS GO!

Its all ive got left at this point lol

Neither way is a guarantee of anything, at least staying competitive is entertaining. Opportunities to acquire difference makers come along in other ways besides just the draft. UFA, RFA/offer sheet, trades.

5-1-2 in our last eight!!!

That takes care of Washington for the year. That's two points of the 11 we need to get in the third category. Also, finally, three game winning streak. Does anyone realize we have LA Kings three of our next five?

Blues grab 3 points from the best team in the west and east. While it’s definitely late, growth is the most important thing.

Being real, the blues just need to beat the kings next. You beat the kings at home when the kings are playing the 2nd of a back-to-back. It's a difficult stretch to win a bunch in a row, but they need to go on a 6 or 7 game run to realistically be in the conversation.

Just getting in though doesn't mean much to me, need to probably get to WC1 to have a small chance at a run.

Like they said in the GDT, if Mizzou gets on a 5 game win streak, this gets very interesting due to the strength of schedule.

I dont deny that, it’s just more difficult to get em.

We all derive entertainment out of different processes, Id like to see them realistically contend and build a winner capable of contending for awhile. I think the current way, if they’d happen to sneak in, would be more of a one and done year with a bleaker future. I dont begrudge anyone looking for instant gratification, Id just enjoy something more.

I felt like you a couple of weeks ago. You might be right. However, we could become the Buffalo Sabres or Edmonton several years back. It was difficult for both of those teams to build a winning culture. It puts a lot of pressure on the younger players to perform. Maybe having a veteran core shields the younger players and allows them to develop at a controlled pace. I expect Snuggerud and Devo to make the Blues next year. I will be pleasantly surprised if the hit 30 points.

If you are hoping for a lower WC point total required to make the playoffs.

Yesterday's results:

Utah - won big against the wild
Calgary - Lost against Tampa (not a "bad loss", kinda expected loss)
Vancouver - Lost against Anaheim (the ducks are better, but this is a bad loss).

Tonight as of this posting:
Dallas leading 5-2 over LA after 2
Minnesota leading 2-1 over COL after 1.

Rooting for Dallas to win, and then the 2nd result is a "as long as it's not a 3 point game it's fine" type of result. slightly better for Colorado to win in my mind due to Minnesota being less likely to sustain their pace due to injuries/suspensions, but in the end it's close enough where either/or is fine.

Tomorrow:
Rooting for Florida (taking on calgary in the afternoon.
Rooting for New Jersey (taking on Utah just after the blues start)
Rooting for Seattle (taking on Vancouver late).
Hoping the blues take care of business.

Blues do not really control much of their own destiny, which is why the odds even with some potentially favorable results tonight are still gonna hover around 20%. they don't stand to make much ground up on that unless they beat the kings 3 times in short order.

Yesterday's Results:

Dallas W over LA regulation win - Good Result
Colorado over Minnesota regulation win - Good Result.

Today currently:

Florida ahead against Calgary near the end of the 2nd (outshooting calgary 32-8 in fact).
Blues, New Jersey, and Seattle still to come.

Tomorrow:

Boston @ Minnesota - clearly rooting for a Boston win
Calgary @ Carolina - clearly rooting for a Carolina win
Blues @ Dallas - clearly rooting for a Blues win.

Goes without saying the blues need at minimum 3 points this weekend if they want to legitimize their chances of a chance for a run.

Up to 4 :)

….but now 6 on road. Need to go 3-3 at least during this stretch.

That's two more points, bringing the total to 4 points, toward the goal of 11 points in the third paragraph in the original post. Just need seven more points in this category.

As the late Al Davis of Oakland Raiders fame used to say, “Just Win, Baby!”

Blues gotta keep winning in regulation.

Agreed. Sunday night games in Dallas after a Saturday win scare me to death. We don't usually do well. I hope the boys keep their focus.
