31 Straight Commercials: No Wonder TV Viewers are Abandoning the Big 4 Broadcast Networks

Post by Pink Freud »

I never watch anything live on broadcast TV anymore, except sports. Every program I want to see I record on Fubo, and watch at my leisure, FF'ing through all the commercials and boring parts. Even on my NFL package, I always choose "condensed game", which allows me to watch a 3.5 hour game in 45 minutes, with the very same PBP announcing, but only of the actual plays; not the huddles, penalties, injuries, end zone terpsichore, sideline nonsense, and long commercial delays.

That's why I was watching, taping, and measuring "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on ABC Thursday night. It sure seemed like a long, long, loooooong gap between his interviews of guests Ted Danson and Mikey Madison. So, like Warner Wolf...."Let's go to the videotape!" (or in this case, The Cloud):

At 37:27: Kimmel bids Danson adieu, says "We'll be right back with Mikey Madison". THEN...
Commercial: Skyrizi Rx
Commercial: "A Real Pain" movie
Commercial: Capital One travel card
Commercial: eBay
Commercial: Kellogg's bran cereals
Commercial: Apple iPhone 16
Commercial: McDonald's $5 meal deal
Commercial: Progressive Insurance, around the campfire
Commercial: Cabenuva HIV Rx
Commercial: Marshall's for Christmas
Commercial: FX Network, "Say Nothing"
Commercial: Disney Plus: "Deadpool & Wolverine"
Commercial: Hyundai Getaway sales event
Commercial: Billboard teaser for Kimmel's guests next week
Commercial: Tremfaya Rx
Commercial: Ashley Furniture
Commercial: Starbucks: "Hold On, I'm Comin'"
Commercial: eBay: All the parts you need
Commercial: Allstate Insurance: College football team bus
Commercial: Target for the holidays
Commercial: Hulu: Standup comics
Commercial: McDonald's $5 meal deal
Commercial: Shopify
Commercial: Capital One, "Stayin' Alive"
Commercial: T. J. Maxx "Magic In the Air"
Commercial: Snapdragon: Bedtime story
Commercial: College football on ABC teaser for Saturday
Commercial: Morgan & Morgan law firm
Commercial: Kitchen Saver billboard
Commercial: Local Lexus dealer
Commercial: ABC-Hulu tease for "20/20"

At 48:15 --- fully 10:48 after "We'll be right back" --- the show returned.

Total between "we'll be right back" and return to show: 31 commercials in an elapsed time of 10:48. Yes, a nearly eleven-minute commercial cluster with 31 consecutive commercials, teasers, promos, and billboards.

Yet,...advertisers keep shelling out the money to show those ads to an ever-dwindling viewing audience.
