"High Potential": Cheeky, Derivative Cop Show on ABC & Hulu

Post by Pink Freud »

Started binge-watching the new series today, and I'm hooked.

It stars the gorgeous Kaitlin Olsen as a police station cleaning lady-turned evidence savant with a 160 IQ and photographic memory who notices everything with the curiosity and deductive reasoning of a "Jeopardy" champion.

Yes, suspension of disbelief requires us to believe that someone that smart and that stunning --- mile-long legs in go-go boots; micro-miniskirts, and dazzling blue eyes --- is forced to work as a cleaning lady :?: to support 3 kids after her husband mysteriously disappeared when the oldest kid was a baby. Olsen defies physics; she was 48 durìng the first season's filming.

But, once you accept those incongruities, you'll enjoy the fast pace of dialogue and action that borrows liberally from series like "Monk", "Dexter", and "Moonlighting", with the impish sass of "Deadpool", filmed like a travelogue of Los Angeles.

Fun fact for old farts who remember the George Reeves "Adventures of Superman" TV reruns: The police station (exterior) home of the cop characters is the York Avenue Police Museum in Highland Park --- a convenient stop on the Gold Line between Union Station and Pasadena --- that was Inspector Henderson's (Robert Shayne) Police HQs on "Superman". 8)

We have been watching this as well and it is pretty good. We have enjoyed it so far. I am still having a hard time not seeing "Dee".

I can't keep my eyes off Kaitlin Olsen; I see in her face some elements of Julie Christie, Meg Ryan, and Jennifer Aniston; that's serious hottie company; plus, of course....those legs. ::crazya::

I've never seen "It's Always Sunny...", so I may have to give it a good binge-watch. She also had ten appearances with Jean Smart on "Hacks", which has been on my recent radar, too.

I can only imagine what Olsen looked like when she was much younger, 8) so I'll have to re-watch some of my "Curb Your Enthusiasm" episodes (2000-2024), eight of which she was in from seasons 1-6, then season 10, as "Becky"; as well as "It's Always Sunny..." (2005-2023).

We're saving that discussion for you when we chat about Bravo and "Brokeback Mountain".

Ed is right, you are coming off creepy as hell.

Normally, I’d recommend IASIP to anyone, but I worry about your socks and the neighbors.

Yes, wondering what a beautiful, 49 year old actress (Kaitlin Olsen) I'd never seen before looked like in her mid-20s and 30s is just too creepy for words. Good god, grow up....

You’re like an 80-year-old man giving all kinds of background information on the actress and talking about her legs. It’s obvious you weren’t really wanting to start a thread about the show but to talk about Kaitlin. Too bad if you don’t like it, it comes off as creepy. If you just said she’s hot, and that was it, that might be one thing, but you got way too into it, dude.

You could easily look up pictures of her from Sunny without posting all that here. I don’t know what to tell you, it comes off as [fork]ing weird.

But if you’re looking for some jag material, also check out The Mick. She’s the main star in that and it’s a pretty funny show.

After running a string of three episodes back to back last week, ABC has run through the seven episodes it has of "High Potential"; it will return on Jan. 7.
