After 53 Years of Touring, America Finally Calls It a Career

In this era of so many boomer-fave bands' only remaining original member being a roadie or sound engineer, it's nice to have seen America's founding fathers Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley last year in concert, with Al Stewart opening.

Now they've decided to wrap it up and release a doc about their long journey: The new documentary 𝑰 𝑵𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒀𝒐𝒖: 53 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂 takes audiences backstage as Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell privately say goodbye to a lifetime together on the road.

The film will have its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival on October 22nd at the historic Lido Theater with the screening beginning at 7:30 PM. Fans will also have the unique opportunity to participate in a special Q&A session with Gerry, Dewey, and the filmmakers immediately following the screening.

Some of these nostalgic boomer-band concerts by aging artists can be difficult: We attended one revue a few years ago in northern Arizona featuring Gary Puckett and the Union Gap --- Gary was still great, but those Union Gap outfits were embarrassing --- along with The Vogues (only one original member, who barely sang); and the most godawful singer I've heard live, Terry Sylvester from The Hollies. His opening segment got polite applause (because it was over) but was downright painful.

I just learned for this current and final live tour, Gerry Beckley (the blond guy) will not be along, so it's just Dewey Bunnell and their band.
