Can't overstate how much I hate that slowed down pretentious version of "Where Is My Mind"... rest of trailer looks pretty good though.

Good call on both points. Yes, this reminds me of a Guardians of the Galaxy/Suicide Squad mash-up of secondary characters.I guess this is the MCU's version of Suicide Squad? Florence Pugh is so hot.
What was Wyatt Russell (John Walker) in? He's basically a rip-off Captain America right? Also interesting they have Lewis Pullman as Sentry, I don't think we have seen him before right?
Re: Thunderbolts*
Oh boy, another super hero movie!!!
Re: Thunderbolts*
John Walker (Wyatt Russell) first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which was the second Disney+ MCU series released after WandaVision. He was initially chosen to become the new Captain America to replace Steve Rogers, but he turned heel over the course of the show and Sam Wilson took over the mantle of Captain America. The end of the series showed him being recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who was in the process of forming a team of antiheroes (she recruited Yelena at the end of Black Widow). She gave him his new identity as US Agent.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑25 Sep 2024 16:31 pmGood call on both points. You are correct that we have not yet been introduced to Sentry.

Thanks Targ! I did not watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier...just ran out of steam to watch everything that came out, plus I heard so so things about it. Wyatt Russell is in one of my favorite episodes of Black Mirror (Playtest), which was so, so good.
Sentry is the Marvel Superman, so very interesting we finally get to see him in this.

That trailer has an odd pace. Movie might be good. Hopefully it won't require a lot of research because I am not current. And I'm not doing homework.
So...is there going to be a reason to go to a theater before next May? Serious question.

Don't know what's up in STL these days, but In Chicago, we have the Music Box w/ usually an art movie on the bill, The Gene Siskel Theatre, currently the 60th International Film Festival, a bunch of Universities Screening interesting stuff, and the Chicago Filmmakers Group screening interesting and weird fare. That's the kind of thangs I'll get up offen my (donkey) to see.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑23 Oct 2024 16:32 pm That trailer has an odd pace. Movie might be good. Tonite, viewed a Documentary, featured at the festival, at the Siskel called 'No Other Land', a two hour romp of bulldozers tearing down 'illegal' (because everything for the natives is illegal) schools & homes in the West Bank, settlers & IDF, often partners in mayhem, shooting down people in cold blood - right on film. I'm a sucker for punishment. Parking bill - $57 - a new lifetime record - should have taken the CTA.

From what I'm hearing, yes for The Brutalist. I'll wait and see on Nosferatu but they missed the boat on releasing it in December instead of October.Dicktar2023 wrote: ↑23 Oct 2024 16:32 pm That trailer has an odd pace. Movie might be good. But you're telling me you're not panting in anticipation for Kraven the Hunter, or Moana 2, or Gladiator 2, or Captain America 4, or Wicked, or Here?

I'm also rooting for Love Hurts (Feb.) just cause of Ke Huy Quan, but the recently released trailer makes it look pretty generic (in addition to continuing the awful trend of trailers that literally show the entire plot in miniature).

Re: Thunderbolts*
Maybe I’m just getting older and more critical, but I sort of lost interest while watching the trailer. It could be bad editing, but the scene where some were fighting in a closed environment and suddenly they just stop and start talking about what they have in common?
Took me right out of it.
It’s made all the more goofy when they basically put Ghost in there and she doesn’t simply kill US Agent & retread Black Widow. I can understand how US Agent & retread Black Widow might find themselves in a formidable matchup, but Ghost seems to be an over-powered opponent for both of them even working as a team.
Another gripe of mine from the trailer was US Agent shouting “Bucky!?” as if he grew up down the street from him. I could just be hyper-critical and overly sensitive to the past bad writing, but I have zero idea why Walker would have that kind of relationship with him.
First off, in the Disney+ series, they’re not exactly on the same team. Walker is basically tracking Bucky after he skips a mandated therapy session. Any government dossier would have Barnes identified as “James Buchanan Barnes”with aliases “Winter Soldier” and/or ”Bucky.” So, it feels weird (to me) for him to clamor “Bucky!?” upon the site of him shooting a rocket at their vehicle.
Finally, maybe more bad editing, but it looked like Bucky somehow amassed super human strength to pull back on a Humvee speeding away with so much force as to flip it?
Again, I could just be hyper-critical, but I have zero reason to feel this Disney movie will be any different than the craaap they’ve been churning out

Suicide Squad remix? Sentry will be the big bad, unless they introduce an even bigger baddie at the end.

Re: Thunderbolts*
I thought this was a solid MCU flick. Sentry is a badass. Good mix of humor and emotion with this rag-tag group of misfits.
Spoiler
Fantastic Four enters the universe in the post credits scene. Perhaps confirming the theories of how that movie ends. But we’ll see, as we don’t exactly know who is on the ship. Probably them, but is Doom on there too? Or was he in he 616 all along, unknown as a villain? That seems unlikely.

Good to hear. I’m seeing it tomorrow afternoon with my son. Been looking forward to this one for awhile.DJ Davis wrote: ↑02 May 2025 16:33 pm I thought this was a solid MCU flick. Sentry is a badass. Good mix of humor and emotion with this rag-tag group of misfits.

Re: Thunderbolts*
Getting a lot of praise but when I look closer it seems to be more "good for late era MCU," than "really good in itself." Unless my movie nerd buddy makes a deliberate push i'll probably just catch it on stream.
Re: Thunderbolts*
Haven't seen it yet, but it's got the highest Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoies scores for any MCU movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home (yes, higher than Deadpool & Wolverine). For perspective, there have now been 13 MCU movies released since Avengers: Endgame, and the only ones with higher critical acclaim than Thunderbolts* are Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Admittedly, there have been a lot of mediocre to bad MCU movies in that bunch, but it seems like this one is actually pretty decent. I think The Fantastic Four: First Steps will probably also do well with critics when it comes out in two months.DJ Davis wrote: ↑02 May 2025 16:33 pm I thought this was a solid MCU flick.
