"Reagan" movie only grossed $25 mil

Post by Pink Freud »

I'm really surprised "Reagan", starring Dennis Quaid and Penelope Ann Miller as Ron and Nancy, has only earned back --- barely--- its production budget. It's #42 on the list of theatrical releases in 2024. When you include distribution costs, it has yet to make a profit despite reams of free publicity from radio and TV talk shows and those institutions with a vested interest.

Has anyone here seen it? What did you think?

Please-please-please: Movie-related comments only.

If the movie had received a larger number of positive reviews, that information would have trickled down to movie goers across the country and led to a bigger box office haul.

Given the subject matter I actually thought "Reagan", like its producers' faith-based films, was critic-proof. That's why I'm so surprised it did so poorly despite opening on 2,754 screens. A multiplex near me had it on 6 screens its opening weekend; on one screen the second week.

I had been interested in seeing it until so many reviews deemed it a vacuous hagiography.
