Im looking at Dynaudio right now they arent that pricey really we cleaned up the house a bit and now im back into listening to music vs sitting in front of the tv. I have a big pair if Mission 783s great speaker they are just too big
Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
What will they be powered by? Yeah I downsized to a 5-channel with a couple smaller subs. Smaller footprint but still great sound.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024 14:13 pmIm looking at Dynaudio right now they arent that pricey really we cleaned up the house a bit and now im back into listening to music vs sitting in front of the tv. In my family room i have a 5 channel Paradigm surround system with a Denon receiver i agree i love those Paradigms. My wife bought a Bravia a few years ago the Denon i had then did not have a hdmi output so i went to Best Buy and got a new Denon receiver, set it up and wow the Paradigms came to life, unbelievable really for a $400 speaker system
Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
I have my system downstairs. Running a marantz because it works great with apple.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024 14:19 pmI have an NAD power amp 216thx (2 channel) and Rotel disc player so i think i have ample power from that beasttheograce wrote: ↑11 Sep 2024 14:17 pmWhat will they be powered by? Upstairs I just have a couple sonos that I stream music on. It’s good enough up there.
But yeah I really like paradigm for smaller speakers. They are little tanks

I know quite a bit about higher end consumer audio.
Dyneaudios are a wonderful speaker although they can present a difficult load for most affordable amplifiers.
You are in luck with that NAD. They were made fore low impedances and low sensitivity.
If you give me your comfort zone for pricing I might offer an alternative or two, depending upon which flavors of sound you are seeking, but there none better than Dyneaduio, but there are just as good, but with different strengths.
Bookshelves disappear far, far better than floorstanders as it is much easier to deaden a smaller cabinet, and the front baffles will be narrower as a rule, so that those reflections are minimized. You want a speaker that disappears…. You only want to feel that the musicians are standing on a stage in front of you, never that you are hearing a “speaker”.
Do yourself a favor and investigate a proper REL subwoofer. There are very good” subs from SVS and a few others, but REL are the kings for two channel. The proper REL and a fine dyneadio bookshelf will blow the rivets off any floor stander at the same cumulative price.

Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
You didn’t mention the preamp. Preamps are so often overlooked, as the gain stage, while at least as critical as anything else inyour signal path… is just not sexy, nor easy to pitch.
If you want to open the door to a magical room you dreamed you might be lucky enough to possess one day, find a great and simple tube preamp. A tube gain stage will give you 90 plus percent of the glory of a tube amp, but without the heat and the upkeep.

Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
To answer your question, I have the best rig I have ever owned in my life and I have owned some great ones.
.
The funny part is… my speakers are by far the least expensive component. If you have killer speakers and a mediocre front end, your speaker very clearly, and often cruelly, reveal the deficiencies upstream.
I have good plain transparent speakers, the NHT bookshelf 1.5s. NHT was always a favorite of maverick STEREOPHILE reviewer Cory Greenberg in the late 90s as the were a wonderful value- nothing fancy, just transparent. Cory was also a fan of NAD for the same no frills approach. He got in hot water for titling a positive review of their Integrated amp and CD player “Go NAD!”. He was a breath of fresh air, I tell you what.
I am borrowing a LUMIN U2 streamer transport and will likely buy one soon. LUMIN have a very open and lively sound that breathes- and that is a hard thing to find in “hifi” components. I married that to the PrimaLuna EVO 100 tube DAC. That is a match made in Heaven. The DAC is richly textured and has a good bit of what I call, “Natural sweetness”. With a rich and solid streamer like an Aurender, the combination can sound almost soggy and cloying. With the light and airy and lively LUMIN… it puts some well-marbled meat on the bones.
The DAC feeds a PrimaLuna EVO 400 tube integrated amp which is a game-changer. The EVO 400 feeds the NHTs and a pair of older REL t/9is.
I have killer interconnects from Audioquest and some old Tara Labs speaker cables. Everything plugs into an Audioquest Niagara 3000 power conditioner and when I changed out the streamer, DAC, and Integrated Amp’s power cords for Audioquest Tornadoes…. It was like elves snuck into my room with wet dry vac and sucked out ton of RF haze and other noise that I never knew was there… until it was all gone.
Music is a passion.

Re: OT: Any audiophiles in here???
Yep i am the owner of a pair of Dynaudio Evoke 10s, very excited i cant wait to get these set up and put on some of my favorites. I have a sofa obstructing the left side so im trying to determine a) dont worry about it and go with the Dynaudio stands b) get a taller stand to get the driver above the sofa i'll experiment with this a bit as i listen.
Now i have a pair of '00 Mission 783s to sell Im hoping to find a friend who needs these they are like family to me but they are monsterous for the room im using.

Wow man great set up i dont have a DAC yet the rest of my set up is a NAD 216 THX amp, NAD 114 pre amp and a Rotel RCD-1072 disc player that has been my favorite disc player that i have owned. I listen almost exclusively to CDs i have a little blue tooth adapter for Spotify but its rare that i use it at all so in that regard i probably dont even need DAC. The NAD 114 pre is probably the weak link right now in the system once the Dyns are set up ill look for an upgradeHarry York 37 wrote: ↑12 Sep 2024 01:03 am To answer your question, I have the best rig I have ever owned in my life and I have owned some great ones.

The NAD Preamp is fine. It is lovely to have the gain stage- which operates at 3 to 6 volts- not have to share a chassis and a power supply with a big amp.
I have owned or sold most all of what you own.
"You have chosen... Wisely".
If you do upgrade, here is a decent deal from a fellow in MIssouri. It might need to be recapped, but recapping a Preamp is not like an amp,https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650 ... ond-owner/
It oughtta be sweet- it has an outboard power supply for more pop and even a lower noise floor

With your rig, you should look at one of thes- a legendary budget Streamer/DAC new for almost half offhttps://upscaleaudio.com/products/bluesound-node-streamer-music-server-dac
If you do, spring 15 bucks a month for TIDAL or Qpbuz for a hundred million songs in CD quality and around 10% in SACD quality.
Spotify keeps promising full CD quality but are making so damned much money they are in no hurry.

For stands, you want the tweeter at ear level from your listening position, The Evoke 10 tweeter looks about 10 inches from the bottom of the speaker. If ear level when seated is 33", a 32 inch stand like this is very nice.
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-50mBY9cJc ... EAQAvD_BwE
It is steel and solid, but the legs are hollow.
The big time cheap upgrade is - before you screw down the top plate, fill each leg with this- a CHEAP tweak that will make those Dyneaudios at least 10% cleaner than without it.
For under 8 bucks this is plenty. Playground sand is actually "clean"
