Recalling way back when CBS affiliate KMOX-TV (KMOV since their long-ago acquisition by Viacom), Channel 4 in St. Louis, aired 3 movies a day in the late 1950s/early '60s, as The Early Show in the afternoon; The Late Show after the 10pm news, then The Late, Late Show, before the colorful Indian Head test pattern that closed the broadcast day, all introduced and closed by the Leroy Anderson instrumental "The Syncopated Clock".
I was about 7 when I first recognized a Channel 4 "Early Show" movie I had seen with my parents in a movie theater, when Mom reminded me ALL of those movies on TV had been theatrical releases, many we had seen at the Crest Theater in Affton, the Columbia on The Hill; the Rio behind Lombardo's in north St. Louis, and the Ritz on Grand.
Nearly all of the TV films were studio releases from the 1940s and '50s, so I heard lots of mentions of Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart, Joel McCrea, Glenn Ford, Katherine Hepburn, Joan Crawford, Susan Hayward, and Grace Kelly, learning those iconic names as a little boy.
To remember that series , just look up "The Syncopated Clock".....and listen.
