Best Burrito in the Lou

Post by Tony Palazzolo »

What is the best authentic place to get a burrito in St Louis? We travel to Chicago quite often and have found a couple of places that have fantastic burritos. It dawned on me that we didn't know one locally. I don't have anything against Chipotle but would prefer authentic.

I’m not saying it’s the best or however you define authentic, but Espinos in Chesterfield Valley has a great one. It’s a knife and fork kind of deal. Get it suiza… ranchero sauce and cheese on top.

Id settle for a del taco fish taco right now.

Good to know. They are right down the street. I haven't been there since it's soft opening.

It's excellent. Make sure to try the shrimp soup.

True, authentic Mexican food is prepared with authentic Mexican water.

And Mexican food is so much more than tacos and burritos. By the way, the big stuffed burritos common in Southern California are not authentic.

The authentic Mexican burritos are from the northern states of Mexico. They tend to be smaller and more simple than the burritos that evolved into what we know as burritos in the southwestern part of the US.

I’ve spent a lot of time on business in the Mexico Ciry region and never came across a burrito. The food was fantastic. But what I always pined for in Mexico were Argentinian restaurants which are very good.

Same with taco's, Very simple.
Using the right marinades, the authentic spices, ingredients, cheese.
I can't even find good Mexican cheese here anymore, even in the Mex markets, It's used on everything. Target use to have it but not any more. Image
