I don’t pretend to know all the ins and outs of our minor league teams, but in seeing Alcala this past year it seemed to me that he at least has a live arm.craviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:14 pmjust went back to Dgoold's twitter....and it was a DFA of RHP Jorge AlcalaICCFIM2 wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:12 pmYou were spot on. I wonder what the corresponding roster move was to add the 4th player? 40 man is at 41 until they announce the move
Maybe Bloom will give Koperniak a good look this spring - something his predecessor never did.RunSup wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:47 pmIt doesn't make sense that they kept an almost 28 year old Koperniak over Jordan who is about to turn 23. Also that's 40. They'll have to open a spot to select a Rule V pick. Plenty of time.
I just like things to make sense. That's all. Are we waiting on another transaction announcement? Maybe Goold or others will ask about the reasoning.

Other than hiring some people who “ seem” to be upgrades to what the Cardinals had, he hasn’t done anything I agree with yet. Keeping Oli, the current 40 man roster, the moves made at the trade deadline, and his wanting to trade Donovan. These are just the things I can think of at the moment. He talks a good talk, but so far hasn’t shown he can walk the walk. Not feeling all that optimistic, I’m sad to say.
What did you have issues with about the deadline?
The offseason isn’t done, why are you frustrated with the 40 man roster?
Listening to offers on Donovan is smart. If they get a great offer take it. If not then keep him.

I don’t like the way Oli constructs a line up or handles the pitching staff. He is also suppose to be nurturing the young players, and so far, that hasn’t gone too well!

I didn’t like any of the returns. Baez and Jordan don’t impression me much. I guess the Cardinals either, they left Jordan unprotected!

We will probably loose players because they weren’t protected left unprotected, and players were kept on the roster that I feel aren’t needed.

That’s fine, but not what I expect to happen. My fear we will receive only marginal players in return, such as Baez and Jordan.
Look at the players the Cardinals are rumored to be making available. They all make 5 mil. Or more, so tell me again this is not the Cardinals going cheap, and how they are just rebuilding!
Hoosier59 wrote: ↑19 Nov 2025 08:57 amOn Oli he is a placeholder. It’s better to pick his replacement when the position is more desirable to top end managers. Right now you are going to get retreads or more people with little to no experience. A ton of the lack of development of previous prospects falls on massive mistakes on MO’s part as well as a lack of investment in the minor league development system from DeWitt. They acknowledged their mistakes and are trying to fix them. We will see overtime if it’s fixed.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 18:55 pmThere is zero reason to be frustrated Oli is still here. Matz was never going to return much. Most of the four years the fan base was hammering the Cardinals for not DFAing him.
Helsley turned into a high upside young prospect. Time will tell if it works out. It wasn’t that long ago people were trashing the team for the return on the three Blue Jays trades. Now people are excited one of those pieces might be our closer.
They protected the most important players. You can’t protect everyone and some of those protected will be DFAed later when other roster spots are needed. Some of those unprotected won’t get picked and will remaining with the Cards without burning a 40-man roster spots. We will also need spots for Wetherholt and Matthews at some point in 26.
If Donovan is moved it will be based on a great return not for payroll cutting reasons.
As far as spending. Right now is the wrong time to spend. They need to fix the internal issues and get the new young core in place them supplement it with spending. Spending now gets you middle of the pack and repeating the same mistake year after year.
Interesting take, Melville. Bloom is actively shopping Mootbaar and Donovan.
And willing to listen on Burleson.
Might also be asked about Church as a package piece.
They are ALL LH hitters - and all can play outfield.
Bloom could be hanging on to Koperniak (who can play all 3 outfield spots) as a depth piece until he sorts out who is leaving.
