I just saw this and wanted to say a few words since I can relate..Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 06:15 am Younghopp was a nickname i got during a darker time in my life while I was incarcerated from the ages of 24-29. I was young, green, skinny and tall. So grasshopper/younghopp was created. Im not proud of who i once was, but dang proud of who i have become because of my trials and tribulations. Also why i am big on 2nd chances (monty, LM) long story short im lazy and try to keep the same username for most logins. I was actually in leavenworth when the blues won the cup. Me and a couple other STL guys locked down the sports tv and watched a majority of the cup series. My father and i are huge blues fans all the way back to me commentating cujo at a young age. Blues hockey is more than just a sport to me. Its a big foundation on why me and my dad still have a relationship as good as we do today.
Thats my rant. I got a little off topic but it all had purpose. LGB!!!
First off, much respect for you owning up to your past and not trying to minimize your responsibilities, and more respect for not being afraid to talk about it in a forum full of strangers who ive seen use personal info against posters who gave out personal details about themselves. Its what gutless P[ositively] O[bnoxious] S[impleton]’s do, but unfortunately ive witnessed it here on more than one occasion.
I can relate to your story cause I also did time back when I was young and beyond dumb, (two first degree assaults in my early 20’s and had to do 6 months for tge first one and 18 months for the second one).
As Im sure you know, there’s absolutely nothing cool, glorious or redeeming about doing time, but it’s a necessary evil that needs to happen for those out of control who need a wakeup call. All of my trouble stemmed from the hurt and anger inside of havin an abusive alcoholic Father, and I tried numbing the pain with drugs and drinking and took my anger out on people who didnt deserve it and I still feel unbelievably guilty to this day for the things I did as a punkazz kid who didnt know how to properly release my anger and pain. But I finally got my sheeet together after my son was born and knew I was gonna be a single Dad raising him. He’s the reason I straightened up and have over 14 years of sobriety under my belt.
Wont bore you or anyone else with more details, just felt the urge to say something after reading your poignant post that caught me in them feeler thingies

If ya ever need someone to talk to or vent to, dont hesitate to say hey. I get a kick out of shootin the sheet with like-minded peeps who’ve struggled in life but were able to improve themselves and come out a better person on the other end. *thumbs up.*

Mine is a nickname of a nickname. Part 1: Grew up in a town right across the river from a little town that has loads of Dutch heritage. Most of my friends were from there; I was the only one of the group that didn't have a Dutch surname, so they just started calling me "Vander" to claim me as their own. Part 2: Aforementioned group of friends saw me playing tennis and tacked on "-tilova" (as in "Navratilova") to rib me about it. I've been Vandertilova to them ever since.

I picked the name many moons ago.
Blues are the best team ever. We should always dominate each and every year!
Let's go Blues.

I had the VHS tape! It was put out the summer after the Monday Night Miracle, summer of ‘86Russdv14 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 23:42 pm I went back and read all the comments. Isn't this fun.
I love the old references like stories about Noel Picard and Gus Kyle. "hot rivets"...that's a good reference, and that is where Barnburner must have gotten his name. Those were the good old days for sure when some of us were teens. Since this is such a popular thread, I just want ALL Blues fans to spend an hour watching "True Blues" on you tube I don't think I need to convince the older fans (who might be seen within the film), but for those younger fans who never got to see the Old Arena on Oakland Ave, this re-lives the time with the Plagers, Picard, Red Berenson and our other heroes in "the day". (the explanation of my screen name i way back on page 2 for those who may have missed it and wanting to know about me better).

That was right before my Senior year of high school started. I was crushed, I can say it's the first time I remember crying over the loss of someone famous. Beat heroin and die in a crash, such a waste. Thumbs up to you sir.SRV1990 wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 08:48 am I was fortunate enough to see Stevie Ray Vaughan in concert. It was the first of two shows at Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, WI. Eric Clapton was the headliner. Also on the bill with Clapton and SRV were Robert Cray, Buddy Guy and Jimmie Vaughan. The 2nd show was on Sunday night, August 26th. In the early morning hours of Monday, August 27th, the helicopter SRV and others were in went down in the hills of Wisconsin. My screenname is in honor of Stevie and the year he died.

Originally FederkoFan but that ID got whacked. Born in Saskatoon and watched Bernie play for the Blades. When the team was talking about transferring well... ummmm... I was just a little bit excited... Alas no such luck(?) He did however win me a lot of snake pools in the 80's.
Been a big Blues fan since the late 70's and have stuck with them through thick and thin...
Changed to CalgaryBlue to make it easy to identify myself....

I think it was Denis Leary had a bit, he was talking about how life is unfair and one of the examples he used was Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead and yet Jon Bon Jovi walks the earth.TAFKAP wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 13:44 pmThat was right before my Senior year of high school started. OoooOoo, you hit one of my pet peeves… I hate Bon Scrotum with a passion, for so many reasons. Lil turd actually thought he was a metalhead back in the day.netboy65 wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 14:37 pmI think it was Denis Leary had a bit, he was talking about how life is unfair and one of the examples he used was Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead and yet Jon Bon Jovi walks the earth.TAFKAP wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 13:44 pmThat was right before my Senior year of high school started. That's funny [shirt] right there. Love Dennis Leary, especially the old MTV promos. The Cindy Crawford ones were epic.netboy65 wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 14:37 pmI think it was Denis Leary had a bit, he was talking about how life is unfair and one of the examples he used was Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead and yet Jon Bon Jovi walks the earth.TAFKAP wrote: ↑07 Jul 2025 13:44 pmThat was right before my Senior year of high school started.
