I believe Byram has two years until he's an UFA. So Buffalo will still have a year of control of Byram (RFA) after the upcoming season.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 16:59 pmSo in typical Buffalo fashion, are they screwing themselves by keeping him one more year and then losing him for nothing after this year when he’s UFA?kimzey59 wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 16:50 pm Buffalo is taking Byram to arbitration.

I believe that since Buffalo took him to arbitration, the player and his agent get to pick the term…1 or 2 years…whichever they feel is best…so…If Byram picks 1 year…he becomes an UFA next season. All Buffalo did by taking him to arb…is take his ability to sign an offer sheet away from him…and control his playing rights for next season.rbirules wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 19:25 pmI believe Byram has two years until he's an UFA. Yes and no. The team selected Arb so the player gets to select 1 or 2 years. This does not impact his status on when he becomes a UFA, which is in 2 years.BobbyBlue wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 21:30 pmI believe that since Buffalo took him to arbitration, the player and his agent get to pick the term…1 or 2 years…whichever they feel is best…so…If Byram picks 1 year…he becomes an UFA next season. so if he stupidly selected 1 year, then he would still be a RFA at the end of next year with full arb rights again. If he correctly selects 2 years he completely negates buf's trading power and becomes a UFA at the end of the contract.
No one is going to trade for a Bo that can walk in 2 years. at least they wont give up anything worth his value.

I don't know if this has been confirmed but I sure hope it has. I would hate to lose Lindstein or Stenberg so that we can sign Byram to a large contract. I like where the Blues stand at the moment ... with wiggle room to add if need be. People get injured in camp and preseason ... ya never know.

They can still sign him to whatever kind of contract the two sides agree on if they get it done prior to the arbitration hearing. He can also still be traded before or after. This basically just takes an offer sheet off the table.so_crates wrote: ↑06 Jul 2025 22:01 pmYes and no. The team selected Arb so the player gets to select 1 or 2 years. Yep a sign/trade is not only on the table but the most likely outcome. To where before it sounded like there was going to be an offer sheet (probably not from the Blues). Byram wants to cash in now, not play in Buffalo for 2 more years.
So he will agree to a sign/trade if the dollars are right. Hopefully Army still sees Buffalo in a tough spot with needing to trade him vs keeping a disgruntled player for 2 years then losing him.
