To be frank, I think one thing which has badly damaged our society over the past generation is highly competent, highly productive people who embrace idleness when they still have much to contribute - and who become takers instead.
It is one thing to leave the field because a player can't compete with younger talent - it is quite another to walk away simply because one can.

I retired 3 years ago and float-fish the Meramec for smallmouth out of Garrisons maybe 10-12 times/year. We go during the week and especially after Labor Day.
Since September 2023 I’ve got 2 18” and my buddy has 2 plus a 19” that was a little over 3 1/2 lbs.
Just went yesterday, got about 15 between us but nothing over 13”. Great way to spend a day!
