Can someone post a list of the things Oli has done over the course of a game, games, season that definitively prove to you and us that he has won ballgames for this team and outmanaged the fella in the other dugout
Can you post this list for any manager?
If Cards Talk greatest manager ever is all that, why was Francona only 6-7 vs. Oli and the Cardinals last season if Oli is the worst manager in the history of MLB?
Absolutely
Let's see it.
Did you watch Robert’s manage his team back into the WS and eventually winning it. Clearly outmanaged his BlueJays counterpart
Ha. So what you're saying is the Cards and Dodgers have comparable talent on their 2025 rosters?
Why couldn't the Dodgers hit in the postseason? Roberts clearly sucks.
Either a manager matters or he doesn’t…….take a stand
My stand, as I've stated many times on this board, is that a managers impact is negligible unless he's a total dumpster fire.
It's funny to me that you guys lose your [shirt] over anything and everything Oli. Keep up the solid work on telling me how great of a manager Dave Roberts is while coaching most likely the most talented roster in MLB history.
So why defend someone so passionately if he doesn’t matter. I could see defending oli if you thought he was a good manager who has a bad team but you say he doesn’t matter and still defend him lol now that’s funny

Oli is not the reason the team has missed the playoffs three straight seasons.
That is about the talent.
However:
This team plays low IQ baseball especially when you look at horrible base running and lousy plate discipline.
His in game decision making is clearly below average.
That all being said he is an obvious negative to this team.
They can do better and hopefully make the change at some point this upcoming season.

This is proof that Cardinals leadership no longer care about winning but instead is just trying to make a profitable business. We have officially become the Pirates, Reds, Royals, etc… 60% of baseball owners have no concern with winning or losing but just making as much as possible.

Well he’s good at I guess getting players to like him. He’s a paint by numbers manager isn’t good at getting the team to play good fundamentally but the players like him and I’m sure they don’t want him feeling any pressure to be good at his job or win
Oli Marmol in 2023 - “All this losing is going to serve us well in the future.”
He has absolutely zero sense of urgency.
The only losing that serves you in the future happens in October.
These young guys need to start getting some playoff experience to draw on in future years when we have enough talent to maybe win.

I hate this.
Because now I have to read and hear a bunch of simpletons shout to the hills that the manager is the problem with this deeply, deeply flawed team for the past four years.
The Marmot is a weak, obedient member of the STL rodent community, perfectly willing to remain prey for superior predators at the expense of living a minimalist existence for as long as he can survive.
Who gave Mikolas 31 starts?
The Marmot.
Who obediently denied starts to McGreevy until it will too late and irrelevant, even though he was the far superior option?
The Marmot.
Who refused to bench N/A simply because of his contract, wasting yet another season of giving opportunities to younger, better players?
The Marmot.
Who continued to play Lars The Human-Sushi-baar and repeat the propaganda that he was "a long term core player" at the direction of Super Slo Mo - even though it had been obvious for years that the outfielder was no such thing and never would be?
The Marmot.
Who made the laughably inept decision to begin the season with Herrera as the anointed starting catcher - even though Ivan has never displayed even the most basic competency at the position and had been rejected by the pitching staff?
The Marmot.
On and on and on the list could go.
Oliver Marmol has badly mismanaged the roster simply because he is too weak, too much of a yes man for the front office, too interested in being liked rather than respected by players.
We can fairly debate the quality of the roster he has had to work with each year.
But he consistently gets less from it than he should.
Marmol does not have final say who is on the roster.
Marmol said as diplomatically as he could that he wanted to put in McGreevy for Fedde.
Consistently gets less than he should from the roster!? A roster that includes Miles Mikolas, Garret Hampson, Erick Fedde, and Andre Pallante?
Melville, if you weren't consistently enjoying the smell of your own farts on here, I would absolutely think you were joking.
He decides who plays.
When.
And where.
The Marmot has consistently been terrible in those decisions.
As illustrated though my perfect list of examples above - which is but a small sampling of the many mistakes he has made.
If you were 1/3 as smart as you think you are you wouldn’t be pontificating and patting yourself on the back in Cards Talk but would be running a team somewhere.
I do.
Not a baseball team.
But a large and successful group of professionals.

Hoping this pud is smarter than he seems. Maybe the improved farm instruction produces more fundamentally sound players. Maybe Bloom replaces the ipad with a better analytics Chromebook.

Lol at anyone that thinks could manage the team half as well as Oli. I love watching people's heads explode though. I hope they resign him for 5 years.
I honestly don't know if anyone else could have gotten a better record from this team in 2025. I do know pulling Quintana after 75 pitches and trying to get 2 innings from a closer with a jammed finger was idiotic and he STILL thinks he made the right decisions that night. He did pull starters far too early in 23 and 24, but this year, at least before their epic collapse, I thought he did a much better job managing the BP.
What I DO know is the majority of the fans have no faith in Oli and view him as a remnant of the past regime and do not believe he's done anything to prove he's worthy of an extension at this time. Giving him ANOTHER undeserving extension will do nothing but further alienate the fans and slow the timetable of trust and success they're trying to rebuild.
As far as you Oli apologists go, I have no idea what you see in him that warrants such undeserving loyalty.
Be honest I do not care who manages the team in 2026. After that when talent starts arriving and maybe start reinvesting in talent I want a proven commodity.
People keep saying this, but Ollie has never figured out how to either develop Walker and Gorman or to be done with them and demand a replacement. Tony would’ve figured that out one way or the other years ago.
If either one of them are ever going to become decent, MLB players its going to require a different manager and coaching staff. Why not hire a manager NOW who is well experienced at developing talent AFTER they reach the show, and not someone who is just likable?

Maybe they think that given the right coaches, instructors, infrastructure (pitching labs, etc.), etc. that Marmol ultimately at least be the right guy to get more of their young players to where they need to be over the next 2-3 years.
Logic prevails.
Maybe.....just maybe.....Bloom knows what he's doing. I'm no Marmol fan, but it's not like he's had a lot to work with.

Now why would a manager bat him 2nd after viewing this??
Described this many times so I’m sure you’ve seen it. This last June Cards were a couple games back going into the Cubbie back to back series. Oli could’ve rearranged this starting pitching so Gray threw more than one game, but chose to stick with his rotation scheduling that saw Fedde and Miles start 4 games and lose 4 games. Cards season over…

So again tell me a manager his little impact on these decisions

Again.........key word is "PRELIMINARY." No reason to flip out.
Outlining what a deal might look like. Having something ready to go in the course of the season depending on how well he works with Bloom. It prevents them from having to negotiate during the season when Oli has better stuff to worry about.
Maybe I'm wrong, and a deal is imminent, but that's not what I hear when I read the word "preliminary." Also, maybe Bloom and his people know what they're doing and they think Oli is good.

So an org would put out PR stating working on contract extension when they knew they wouldn’t be keeping a manager
