Re: Tuesday dealine to protect from Rule 5
No real surprises, except I might have thought they’d have protected Jordan. I should clarify I’m surprised, but not really that bothered about it. I do think that he has been overrated a bit by fans, so I’m probably looking the other way on his AAA performance a bit too. Probably a good chance no team wants to take a chance on him either. I hope so. He’s one of those guys that you hope finally plays up to his potential, so I wouldn’t mind seeing him here for another year.

Re: Tuesday dealine to protect from Rule 5
There is zero reason to be frustrated Oli is still here. They are not contending next year. Let Bloom pick his guy after he gets the roster in a better spot making the spot more desirable.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:49 pm Well, Bloom is starting to concern me. Other than hiring some people who “ seem” to be upgrades to what the Cardinals had, he hasn’t done anything I agree with yet. Keeping Oli, the current 40 man roster, the moves made at the trade deadline, and his wanting to trade Donovan. These are just the things I can think of at the moment. He talks a good talk, but so far hasn’t shown he can walk the walk. Not feeling all that optimistic, I’m sad to say.
What did you have issues with about the deadline?
The offseason isn’t done, why are you frustrated with the 40 man roster?
Listening to offers on Donovan is smart. If they get a great offer take it. If not then keep him.

agree with all that ^Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 18:54 pm No real surprises, except I might have thought they’d have protected Jordan. Re: Tuesday dealine to protect from Rule 5
Seems to make little sense to protect an outfielder Koperniak , who fyi looked good in spring training, that they would not call up and give at bats to with the team having ABs for outfielders available and worse, some of the nobodies they signed who got some of those at bats instead of him. Has there been a reevaluation of Koperniak with the departure of Mo?

No one is going commit to putting Blaze Jordan on an MLB roster for all of next season.craviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:11 pmthey join Bryan Torres who was added last week....hmmm, crazy stuffcraviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:08 pm Derrick Goold

no Blaze Jordan.....
I wonder what the corresponding roster move was to add the 4th player? 40 man is at 41 until they announce the move
Trade for Jordan and he wasn't awful, but he wasn't what we expected either....now the waiting game...does he get picked the 2nd week of December or Traded before then?
Re: Tuesday dealine to protect from Rule 5
I think you are correct about Hansen.craviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:24 pm My guess on who we will lose at the Winter Meetings R5 Draft:
90-100% sure we lose Randel Clemente....teams love that gas can type arm...even if it's wild, he's still showing improvement. He'll get drafted and spend the year with a AAA team somewhere.
40-60% sure we lose Darlin Saladin, his AFL showing shocked everyone, made him slightly more desirable. His small frame and 2025 Peoria season aren't doing him any favors, though.
60-70% sure we lose Cade Winquest...hard staying healthy enough for a full season, but showed when healthy he can be a savvy enough to navigate through your lineup....AA draft
80-90% we lose Pete Hansen...no fastball to write home to mom about, but he still throws strikes and was solid in a tough league this year. Going to miss you, Pete.... G/L
71.3% chance we lose Blaze Jordan...someone will take him and start him in the Majors next season...Tampa? Marlins? I would've said the Pirates, but they seem to be serious about winning next year...by recent reports.
With pitching at a premium and 13 roster spots for pitchers, he is close enough that some team will find him attractive.
On the other hand, no one is going commit to putting Blaze Jordan on an MLB roster for all of next season.

The reasoning is pretty clear.RunSup wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:47 pmIt doesn't make sense that they kept an almost 28 year old Koperniak over Jordan who is about to turn 23. There was other 40-man fluff to wave also.RunSup wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:37 pmHmmm... No Blaze Jordan.craviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:08 pm Derrick Goold

Also that's 40. They'll have to open a spot to select a Rule V pick. Plenty of time.
I just like things to make sense. That's all. Are we waiting on another transaction announcement? Maybe Goold or others will ask about the reasoning.
Bloom is actively shopping Mootbaar and Donovan.
And willing to listen on Burleson.
Might also be asked about Church as a package piece.
They are ALL LH hitters - and all can play outfield.
Bloom could be hanging on to Koperniak (who can play all 3 outfield spots) as a depth piece until he sorts out who is leaving.

So if we were to trade Hansen before the Rule 5 draft, can the receiving team put him on their roster and not worry about losing him?

Re: Tuesday dealine to protect from Rule 5
During the MLB offseason, the active roster for MLB is 26 players, while the expanded, or "40-man," roster is 40 players.
For the minor leagues, the Triple-A offseason roster is 38 players, and the Double-A roster is 37 players.
So each team can protect 40 players from the MLB rule 5 draft, 78 players from the AAA rule 5 draft, and 115 players from the AA rule 5 draft.

Re: Tuesday dealine to protect from Rule 5
The Twins took Trent Baker last year...that blew my mind. Winquest showed remarkable improvement at Springfield last year...when he was on the field. Decent chance he's gone...a team can do worse with an R5 AA round pick. I'm probably in the overwhelming minority, though.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 20:37 pmDo you really think Winquest will be gone?Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 20:31 pmcraviduce wrote: ↑18 Nov 2025 17:24 pm My guess on who we will lose at the Winter Meetings R5 Draft:
