I do know this - the Blues have one helluva scouting department and in future "redrafts", this pick will be one to keep an eye on.

I also recall him having one of the best shots and hands in the draft, according to an analysis I posted prior.

Unbelievable we snagged him.
I thought the same as Seattle - there was next to no way Carbonneau was getting past Montreal with them having back to back picks at 16 & 17 so I didn’t focus on him a lot. But that all changes when the Habs traded those 2 picks to the Isles.

In the end, I’m glad we got Carbo. My son was very happy to meet him and get a puck signed a few weeks ago when Carbo was here for the WJSS.

spot on about the scouting and drafting.. where they've been picking, they have found really good value

I think the second ish clip in this package of him scoring every goal he scored this year was against Moncton when I was watching a Pekarcik game and it caught my attention and I deep dived him. Take a look at this player's method of offensive attack and tell me this player wouldn't look good on the Blues ....

I think this is the first mention of Carbonneau...

Nice revisit
Appreciate the post. The first one is actually April 9 but there were numerous mentions along the way. It was by April 9 the Blues' draft position fate had turned and it was only possible he'd drop if centers were at a premium and displacing him.

At one point I said I thought it very unlikely he'd get past the Canadiens who at the time had double picks just before the Blues and who no way could pass that large a French Canadian talent who was becoming a steal in that range if they had two picks. So I stopped focusing on him as much and was more thinking about Brzustevich as the playoffs were unfolding and I was seeing him play. He felt a lot more realistic for 19.

But in the GDT draft thread we had, the instant Kindel went I said I was on Carbonneau watch. It was always my hope, and with the Isles owning those two picks now I thought it could happen if the run on centers happened.
I got pretty excited when he was falling and we picked him. Probably more excited for you getting the guy you've been calling for months, but also because I very much trust your opinion on the matter and was happy to get him (especially over who was left).

When I was first watching scouting reports and reading up on draft eligible players, someone said Carbonneau was completely one-sided, so I sort of wrote him off. I thought he was a small speedy/greedy kid who takes advantage of the Jr style game. While he is greedy in a positive kind of way, I was totally wrong on that initial assumption.
I appreciate your happiness for my happiness. There is just something I relate to in the competitiveness. I am ultracompetitive (while at the same time trying to be increasingly attentive and present, which is, er ... interesting cross dynamic). For example I have started playing softball this summer in nice Tacoma-area league. I haven't played since last school year 2003 (when I was a regular poster here lol). We had our first game on a new softball team a couple nights ago and I went 0-3 and we lost 11-10, and all I can think about is getting to the batting cages Monday night to prep for next Thursday so that we can win every remaining game on our schedule and make the playoffs. I apologized personally after the game to the best player on the team who deserved better. My outs were noble outs with good contact but I expect to be 3-3. I can't help it, if I'm going to make a list of films noir, it has to be the definitively best one anyone's published and to do that I have to bring the most dizzying array of checks and balances and spend years on the project. Otherwise why am I wasting anyone's time, I am capable of producing that so I should do it.

That is how Justin Carbonneau thinks about being on the ice and scoring goals and making his team win the game and the championship. I know it when I see it. David Perron had it and he is my all time favorite hockey player.

It's about the desire to dogpile into joy, that is at the base of it. That's what Carbonneau and Perron and I want to do. To celebrate richly at the end in a group. To do that you have to win. To do that you have to score. I know how to score. Get me the puck. That is who those two are.

I can absolutely relate to that.

We agree very much on this topic, and especially the bolded.
