I've watched Hunter Hines for a long time....love the attitude, love that he's the best teammate on every team he's on....but the bat never made it. He'll likely stall in AA/AAA. But I'd want him on my team

There goes the 1st 4 Year SR pick, I will have to look back over the last 10-12 drafts but I don't remember them ever going 9 rounds w/o a College SR pick to offset some of the costs on the earlier picks?

On a side note, I kind of have a lil higher hopes for the OF out of Hawaii Matthew Miura.......not much power, but has shown he can hit, run the bases and play solid defense. Likely no more than a Ryan Freel, So Taguchi kind of 4th/5th OF type, but those glue guys are great to have around.

We'll see.....maybe I just love ballplayers that play like it's 1987?

I would love cranking out relievers like we used to. Good area to save money imo as "most" relievers have short shelf lives anyways.

what do you think so far? I'm not upset with this draft at all. I see what they see in some of these lottery tickets. And yesterday was a surprisingly good day from the Cards draft staff. The Tennessee Scout yelled louder than the BIG12 Scout did this year. And the California/West Coast Scout has been silent this year.
I am loving it. I see a plan and they are executing it.
PB and Peoria will be better next year.

Anyone up for some Sam Horn (Mizzou) intrigue for the Cards 11th round pick?
Horn drew comparisons to Bubba Chandler as a Georgia high school right-hander/quarterback in 2022, and while evaluators rated Chandler (now the best mound prospect in the Minors) as having more explosive stuff, Horn was a superior athlete, strike thrower and passer. A four-star football recruit, he turned down seven-figure overtures from MLB teams to attend Missouri as a two-sport athlete. He wowed scouts in his college baseball debut in February 2023 but injured his elbow in his second outing and eventually had Tommy John surgery that cost him all of 2024. Returning to the mound this April following spring football, Horn struck out 14 in 10 2/3 innings while working at 93-95 mph and touching 98 with armside run and sink on his fastball. He hasn't recaptured feel for his slider, though he did show the ability to get chases with his 82-86 mph sweeper. He barely used his mid-80s changeup with fade. Horn creates quality extension with his 6-foot-4 frame and athletic delivery, providing deception with a low arm slot and release height. He's still refining his control and command after working just 15 innings in three college seasons, but they should become average as he gains more experience. Clubs are trying to weigh his upside versus his lack of track record, and his desire to turn pro in baseball while continuing to compete for Missouri's starting quarterback job complicates matters.

I was looking at him but then googled some mizzou football and he seems to be actively in competition for the starting gig. I doubt he leaves for MLB this year

Back on BAs list for round 10z. This one is a big boy. Not quite Lynn-esque, but.

Top Rankings

Draft Prospects

Ranked #351 prospect in 2025 draft
School: Stetson Drafted/Committed: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 22.0

Van Dyke began his college career at Seminole State (Fla.) JC before transferring to Stetson in 2024, where he struggled initially but emerged as a dominant closer as a senior in 2025. He posted a 1.52 ERA with 71 strikeouts and 16 walks over 47.1 innings, earning third-team All-America honors. A strong, 6-foot-2, 255-pound righthander, Van Dyke attacks hitters with a lively 91-93 mph fastball that touches 97 and produced a 37% miss rate thanks to its carry. His primary secondary is a low-80s slider with sharp tilt that drew an eye-popping 49% miss rate. He’ll also occasionally show a mid-70s curveball and a low-80s changeup, but rarely uses them. Van Dyke turns 22 less than a month after the draft and profiles as a surefire reliever in pro ball. While the role is clear, his dominant 2025 performance and swing-and-miss arsenal makes him a compelling target in the 11th round or beyond.

Horn has two more years of eligibility in football. I know he can get drafted by a MLB team this year (after his 3rd year) and he can be drafted next year, after his fourth year. If he plays two more years of football, is he eligible for the MLB draft after his 5th year, or is he a free agent?
