Seriously, if you hate the Blues and everything that they do so much…why submit yourself to living on here?
You must absolutely be a miserable person. Good luck with that…

Maybe the trade should be judged in a few years when we see how McTavish helped us & how the draft picks helped Anaheim.

You really ought to drop the shovel instead of digging the hole deeper. McMichael, while can play center, is more of a winger as others have noted.
McTavish is a true center & as someone else stated, you never have too many centers. They can move to a wing.

McMichael isn’t a center. Great logic there fool...so CM can't play center, but McTavish can play wing. Just because you say so? Besides, who the bleep cares...the point I am making is that the McTavish trade wasn't necessary. They threw away 2 first round picks and McTavish is not that good of a player...his speed and his defense are both atrocious. The player who is the title of this thread would have been a far better investment of those picks.stlblues1979 wrote: ↑03 Jul 2026 12:26 pmGlad you used dashes instead of letters. The picks were lower half of the first round - lottery tickets.
At 15th overall, there's maybe a 40% chance we would have found a good player. Excluding the last 5 years since it's too early to judge, from 2011 to 2020 the 15th overall picks were:
Rodion Amirov – Toronto Maple Leafs, 2020
Cole Caufield – Montreal Canadiens, 2019
Grigori Denisenko – Florida Panthers, 2018
Erik Brännström – Vegas Golden Knights, 2017
Luke Kunin – Minnesota Wild, 2016
Zach Senyshyn – Boston Bruins, 2015
Dylan Larkin – Detroit Red Wings, 2014
Ryan Pulock – New York Islanders, 2013
Cody Ceci – Ottawa Senators, 2012
J.T. Miller – New York Rangers, 2011
I'd love a Caufield or Larkin, but there's also a whole lot of "meh" we might have drafted. And 2019 and 2014 were much deeper drafts.
At 29th overall, there's maybe a 10% shot at finding a really good player. Same time frame:
2020 Brendan Brisson Vegas Golden Knights
2019 Brayden Tracey Anaheim Ducks
2018 Rasmus Sandin Toronto Maple Leafs
2017 Henri Jokiharju Chicago Blackhawks
2016 Trent Frederic Boston Bruins 280
2015 Gabriel Carlsson Columbus Blue Jackets
2014 Adrian Kempe Los Angeles Kings
2013 Jason Dickinson Dallas Stars
2012 Stefan Matteau New Jersey Devils
2011 Nicklas Jensen Vancouver Canucks
I mean, Adrian Kempe would be nice, but the rest is a whole lot of what we already have.
So, yeah, we might have just traded away the next Caufield/Kempe combo for Mason McTavish. Strictly looking at the odds, there's a 1% chance we would have wound up with those two players. Equally likely that we wound up trading away the next Senyshyn/Tracey combo. Point is the Blues traded from a position of strength (they had four picks and traded two of the lower ones after picking the players they hoped for) - to fill a position of need.
You say it wasn't a need because we got McMichael? But McMichael wasn't playing center, and it's not entirely clear he would here. Besides, you can never have too many centers - they can play wing far easier than wingers can play center.
For that matter, McTavish played a lot of wing last year also, so we still may not have totally filled the need. The point is you don't pencil in one guy, you give the team several options to insulate yourself against one player failing. Between McM, McT, and Dvorsky, hopefully we have 2C covered. Sometimes it will be McT. When he slumps, they can go to Dvorsky, then McM. There will be enough work for all of them to get games at both 2C and 3C. Our middle six just got substantially better - a year ago our centers behind RT were Schenn/Suter/? and then Schenn/Dvorsky/Suter. Now it's McTavish/Dvorsky/McMichael/Suter.
Put another way, the days of seeing Buch line up as 2C are finally, FINALLY over.
Now, will you answer the many points I made above, or will you call names and just regurgitate your same dissatisfied opinion like a toddler?
"Nuh-unh".

Re: Nikishin?
Considering McTavish is now on the team, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they targeted Johnston. Fowler being a former Duck will be instrumental in helping Mason get acclimated for the long haul.ratonmono2 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 14:28 pmWe don't have too many centers? Bizarre comment. Even if we did, it's easier to move a center to wing than to adjust a LD to play RD. Incoherent comparison.son_of_foolsgold wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 14:04 pm1. We now have too many centers. You think a LD has no value?ratonmono2 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 13:54 pmAnd people here are overrating Nikishin. The deal doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons. Stenberg again, can be traded but for a LD it makes absolutely zero sense.son_of_foolsgold wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 13:39 pmStenberg for Nikishin would be a steal for the Blues...but I doubt Carolina would do that. Stenberg is about as overrated as any prospect in recent memory.ratonmono2 wrote: ↑02 Jul 2026 13:35 pm Nikishin is a nice player. I'd only see a match if Fowler is headed out though. Broberg, Lindstein, Fischer, Ralph the Blues are stacked at LD and Nikishin getting minutes reduced in a cup run is a big red flag for me. And no I wouldn't trade Stenberg for Nikishin. Stenberg could be had but not for a LD.
2- The player in question is not an upgrade unless we are also moving out Fowler which we aren't. Essentially this boils down to is Nikishin an upgrade over Lindstein? For this season he might be. After this season I have severe doubts about that. Nikishin's minutes were reduced big time in the cup run. I don't think this is a player to invest in unless he's replacing Fowler, which again, he wouldn't be. There's interest I'm sure, but the fit just isn't there.
2. So Nikishin would not be an improvement over Fowler? That is an asinine argument as Fowler's play last year was a disaster. We gave up a 2nd rounder and we got about 3 weeks of good play from Fowler plus a 1000th game ceremony.
Yes Nikishin would be an upgrade over Fowler. Carolina has zero interest in Fowler, so where is he going in this scenario? Nobody wants him. There isn't a trade to be made unless we also can dump Fowler which ain't happening.
They’ve already made a strong investment in picks, contract, personnel (Ex: Greg Cronin), and players. I don’t see them getting rid of Fowler in the near future.

He is. He'd instantly become our most rugged defenseman on a group that lacks one, including Lindstein.
Doing a little AI homework on him, it looks like he was a captain on his KHL team, and a good glue guy in the locker room with a good personality.

Lindstein schmindstein. Nikishin is exactly what they are looking for….NHL ready size on the blue line.
This was the same guy that everybody here wanted in a deal with the Canes a couple of years ago and now because of how Carolina used him in the final and he didn’t produce much , there are red flags….nonsense, he is a rookie, the Canes were on a path to win a cup. Dude was great for them in the regular season…a huge part of their team. This guy instantly makes our defense bigger and better.

Agreed. Have no idea what they are looking for in return or his true value, but I'd be willing to offer Lindstein and our 2027 1st (top 15 protected) to see if it is even close.
