Or two.

But since that power hitter isn’t at third both in house or by way of trade, then we must settle for defense next. And as mentioned, not many better. Still.
Or two for sure.

Bloom has really got his work cut out for him finding one, let alone two and they need to play either in the OF or corner infield!

What the state of the team shows is how far we have fallen. It’s one thing to fall into a hole with an easier recovery. It’s another to get neck deep. We are neck deep.
Mo left C. Bloom a total mess, from the lowest minor league team to the Cardinals.
If that's the case, why was the Cardinals minor league system recently rated so high?
Because Bloom has been working on it and fixed it over the last two years, but of course you knew that but still have to be a toady footstool for Mo.
Well, let's see Rock. The Springfield Cardinals had a terrific season in 2025. They were 88-50. Four key plyers on that team were Leo Bernal Josh Baez, Ixan Henderson, and Brysen Mautz. Bernal and Baez came into the organization in 2021. Bernal just won the minor league Gold Glove Award. Mautz was drafted in 2022. Mautz was drafted in 2023. Both Henderson and Mautz had ERAs in the 2s as starters. Let's see, who was the POBO when those players were selected?
Again

Bloom has been repairing Mo's broken farm system for the past two years, what don't you understand?
That's a nothing answer, Rock. Two different things - bringing players into the system and developing those players.
I agree that the development needed to be improved, and it's happening. But my question to you was -
who was the POBO when those 4 players were brought into the system?
Huh?

The minor league system has made it's jump in the ratings thanks to the great work Bloom did rebuilding/staffing the minor league system that was a complete and utter mess under Mo.

And he also had a hand in the past two drafts.

And that's exactly why I pointed out the examples of players that were brought in prior to the last 2 drafts.

If you want to keep your head buried in the sand when it comes to Mo, then fine.

But the majority of Cardinals fans realize he's the reason (along w/BDWJr) the franchise finds itself in the hole they're now in.
Well, unlike guys who bash Mo for everything from his bow ties, to his scarves, to his sweaters around his shoulders, to
his track record over the last 10 years, I try to take a more objective view. I both criticize him for bad things and praise him for good things over the nearly 30 years he's been with the organization. I guess it's something you simply can't bring yourself to do, can you Rock?
Yeah that wearing sweater tied around the shoulders thing is a little creepy.

I've posted the same a couple times BDog, perhaps being healthy now he bounces back to a .725-.750 OPS while still playing above average defense.

But what this team really needs is a powerhitter.

One last thing, Rock. I very carefully selected those Springfield players because they were brought in before the last 2 drafts.
And they're lucky to have had the benefit of TWO YEARS under C. Bloom's player development system, any success they have will be to hsi staffs credit............NOT MO's.

It's the zero or 10 view Cranny you're aware

Just like you could have named some players that are considered good
on the MLB roster. MO=0, Bloom = 10.
MO ruined a franchise. Bloom starts from MO mess so it might
take all 5 years of his contract to fix such a disaster.

Good gig when you find one.

I know you are deep into the archives. I admire your diligence. But none of the names you mention were household names across baseball, only that n STL.

They all were good players but none to the point of stardom. The kind of player that carries a team. That type of development is missing. You think.

Agreed!
I'd also say that long-term pitching options are hard to come by. Pitchers have a tougher time playing injured & often fall off the map more abruptly than position players. The old adage of "you can't have enough pitching" rings true.
The Cardinals should conitnue to prioritize stockpiling young arms. They can more easily add position players in FAgency in a couple of years.

If you want to keep your head buried in the sand when it comes to Mo, then fine.

But the majority of Cardinals fans realize he's the reason (along w/BDWJr) the franchise finds itself in the hole they're now in.
One last thing, Rock. I very carefully selected those Springfield players because they were brought in before the last 2 drafts.
And they're lucky to have had the benefit of TWO YEARS under C. Bloom's player development system, any success they have will be to hsi staffs credit............NOT MO's.
And what about all the players the system has drafted and developed well over the years Mo was in charge? Have you forgotten those?
Name the future Hall of Famers drafted and developed while Mo was GM/POBO.

I'll give him partial credit for Yadi but no one else after he took over from Walt.

No even many true all-stars (sans the one player charity picks).

The number of busts, including current one's N. Gorman and J. Walker all fall under Mo's inept minor league system.

Gee, I don’t know, SB. Maybe guys like Wong, Wacha, Gonzalez, DeJong, Helsley, Hudson, Gallen, Edman, Winn, Burleson, Herrera, Nootbaar, etc. To name a few.
I know you are deep into the archives. I admire your diligence. But none of the names you mention were household names across baseball, only that n STL.

They all were good players but none to the point of stardom. The kind of player that carries a team. That type of development is missing. You think.
SB - As you and I both know, those types of players are normally drafted in the top half for the 1st round each year. A
level that the winning Cardinals haven't been drafting much this century, until the last 2 drafts.

Pujols and Molina were exceptions.

I respect your opinion but if defense is priority then is there a need for a rebuild? Arenado, Winn, Donovan, WC, Scott all offer above average defense. I’m selfish and want balanced players offering adequate defense and offensive ability. We need some offensive consistency. So I can’t really go with defense first. I WANT IT ALL!!

Nice response. That is a fine fact. But. Using Albert and Molina no longer is critical as it’s becoming legendary history.

That is a poor list, just name a few. Of that list Winn is about the only Cardinal to have a real chance to be a star. Herrera and Burleson on the outside with no real place to play in the field.
