Maybe. But probably not if I’m being honest. Ellis is the toast of the town today but there’s still really no path for him in Buffalo. UPL is their starter and Lyon has more than held his own with a .924 SV% in his 6 starts. UPL would have to do fantastically bad in his rehab starts for them to consider making a move to keep Ellis IMO.

The bigger risk may be some other team wanting Ellis. If Buffalo is eventually forced to put Ellis back on waivers, I could see another team putting in a claim on him, thinking he’d be a better option than their current #2. Especially if Ellis gets another start or two and continues to do well.
upl is a default starter not a starter. he has a carrgaa over 3 and sv% under .900 and .887 last year. its been .892 or lower in 2 of his 3 full seaspns. his goals saved above average was -19.9 last year and -14.1 3 years ago. upl is by no means as secure in his spot as you are acting. hes among worst goalies in the league.
He’d still have to be drastically bad for them to trade him and keep Ellis instead.
last year was kinda the definition of drastically bad. theyll carry 3 goalies til they make a decision. if lyons plays well why wouldnt they keep lyons starter and movie him since ellis is cheaper backup. Honestlynits better fornthem if he isnt drastically bad so they can actually move the contract.

All of the typical kneejerk reactions to the Blues losing Ellis to waivers is annoying. What team would have given the Blues much of anything for a minor league goalie other teams knew the Blues were waiving Ellis??? What would Army have received a 5th round pick? Not worth it it was much more worth the gamble to send Ellis back down

It was reported tonight by Emily Kaplan that the Sabres will carry 3 goalies for a little while. Then they will decide. It was implied that they may try and make a deal since good goaltending is hard to find around the league.
