No.
Donovan is the heart of the team, and our most consistent player.
You build around, not through him.
Looking forward to seeing he and JJ on the infield together.
I love Donovan, but he is not a player you build a championship team around. He is a player who is an integral complementary piece of a championship team. We need the pillar or foundational piece of a championship team.
We do not currently have that piece.
He's coming Basil...............JJW
But Donny is an all-star, gold glove winner and team leader, that's a piece you can build around (not THE PIECE by "a" piece).
This.. They can't trade everyone for prospects. They still have to field a MLB ball team to play in St. Louis. Donnie is the best we have and I would not trade him unless it was a deal that couldn't be refused.

With that in mind, how will they be able to field a mlb team when he walks in free agency?

Isn't that like 2 years away? As I stated, I would keep him unless it was an offer that I couldn't refuse. Nobody on the team is untouchable but why trade everyone you have away for more prospects. I'm all about the future of this organization but the "Present" is important as well..

Kyle Tucker was the best the Astros had. As of now, Astros did great in that trade

Yes, but the Stro's seem better at making deals than this current organization. I just don't want Mo touching anything else.. Giving up Donnie for a "Bust" would be awful... Just leave him be for now..

Amen slimJ
The odds of landing even ONE starting position player or ONE starting pitcher that makes your rotation are slim at best!
Sure it happens, but there's also an extremely high failure rate too (Re: Mo's "haul" from his big 2023 sell-off of Jack Flaherty, Jordan Montgomery, Jordan Hicks, Paul DeJong, Genesis Cabrera, and Chris Stratton = NOTHING of value).
No way I deal away Donny who even after an extension ($60-65M/5 yrs?) would be very reasonably priced.

You don't win by building around Hurdy Gurdy. Nice piece, but not all that. Sell now!

I haven't read much of this thread so maybe I'm parroting others.
I am ALL for dealing anyone on this team for the right return. It is my opinion they should be all in on 2027 as the take off point from a rebuild and that is the last year of control for Donovan. He is flying high and NOW is a perfect time to cash in. I believe this is his ceiling.
I don't see much on the Stros minor league system worth getting excited over but if they can get NYY to offer up Lombard, Jones, and a few others I say do it.
THIS is how to convert from a mid market mediocre team to a contender in a few years.
Go ahead and deal Gray and Helsley too if a buyer offers real value.
If STL adds 5-8 players in their own top 20 they will be poised to be a force in 2027 and beyond. IMO.
