When the play happened I thought....ooops that’s embarrassing and might pay dividends long term as it thankfully didn’t cost them a win.
As for Marmol’s explanation it was lame. But he had to say something and didn’t want to throw his player under the bus as he has done in the past!
The announcers? That was lame also. Funny....when it happened they were critical of Winn.
Winn actually came up big after the play.
Move on!
Fair take.
Of course, it is exactly the same as I made.
Really?
I didn’t read through your entire soliloquy.
Too long Sideshow!

Ted Simmons was one of my favorite Cardinal players played a demanding position on astroturf and didn't run out every ball either and I know why.
It's a long season and the dog days are just starting. Donovan if folks didn't notice "trotted" down the line too as did others.
Some common sense please.
I hate it when I have to run hard 90 feet 3 or 4 times a day, it's so hard. Big leaguers aren't paid enough to do that.
It's no surprise you miss the point completely.
Coach my (donkey). You never coached a day in your life.
You are an angry old man who thinks his opinion is the only one that counts. BTW, did you see the bunt in the 11th? Barerro didn't get picked off after the
batter didn't bunt on the first pitch, then easily went to third on the next bunted pitch without a play. That's the way it's supposed to work. Have a nice day and tell those kids to get off your lawn.
So I was right. You never coached and full of [shirt] to boot.
Morons like you believe because you have an opinion that it can't be wrong.
Stick to your knee jerk reactions and leave the thinking to the adults.
So even though you were proved wrong you still insist you're right. Get off my lawn you old demented codger.
You proved nothing dumb[ash].
Comparing the situation to a suicide bunt. Showing your blatant ignorance.

Wouldn’t be sad to see Oli go, but this thread is silly. Telling players battling back issues to use common sense and ease up on certain plays like that makes total sense.
Then why did he sprint AFTER the infielder bobbled the play?
Running 90 feet over 3 seconds is dangerous to his health, but running 45 feet for 1.5 seconds is not?
The "cover story" is complete nonsense.
Winn blew it and The Marmot didn't have the integrity to say so.
Neither did the broadcasters.
I'll give you credit, nobody doubles down on stupid like you do
Amen

During the broadcast yesterday, all 3 members of the broadcast team discussed and supported Winn jogging lazily to 1B during the prior game - something he has done repeatedly.
They quoted The Marmot as claiming Winn was merely following the orders of the coaching staff, essentially saying the staff wants him to jog to 1B (and take other plays off as well) because they rely on him so heavily.
According to the reporting, because he plays so many innings, because the season is long, because it is hot, because they want him to protect his lower body, he has been told to save his energy, and to "save his bullets" for when needed.
Two points.
It is disgusting that the broadcasters know full well this is complete nonsense and that Winn has been given no such instruction - and not only reported it but defended it as being smart and necessary.
Flat out telling the audience something they did not believe; something antithetical to how the game should be played.
Zero integrity.
Two, neither Marmol nor the staff have told Winn any such thing.
It is obvious The Marmot anticipated the question and rather than telling the truth ("Winn's lack of effort was not acceptable and we have talked about that"), he had devised a long, detailed, nonsensical story designed to protect his player from criticism.
Just the latest in an unending list of examples as to why the man should be fired.
I saw Pujols jog to 1B. I saw Molina jog to 1B.
You say you never watch the games...so, you're lying or full of [shirt]?...BUT THE DH!!!
Since the universal DH I have watched zero games. You are a very strange individual.

The common sense part is don’t injury yourself trying to beat out an obvious routine play. Common sense and human instinct also says to speed up once you see you’re routine play ended up being the one in a hundred that turned out not so routine.
