Hes not a "bad" defender. Hes not Keith Hernandez, but hes solid. I think you have to lock Burly up for ~5 years

He's far from "solid"...defensive metrics show this. He does well with balls hit right at him...so he's better than Jose Martinez was at 1B. To his left and to his right, he has very bad range.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 17:48 pmHes not a "bad" defender. Hes not Keith Hernandez, but hes solid. He's no Willson Contreras, He's no Paul Goldschmidt, He's a smidge under Matt Carpenter, He's no Albert Pujols.
Defensive Metrics puts him 18th of 20 qualified 1B in the Majors Leagues.

Right about what? His hitting in 2023-2024? Sorry budAce Hollister wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 17:35 pmecleme22 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:59 pmI didn’t say ‘move’. I said ‘listen.’RamFan08NY wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:47 pmListen to offers and move your best hitter a d start over? Am I on a Pirate msg board?
And let’s pump the brakes a little. Is AB our best hitter or hottest hitter?
Ops in July: .751.
Ops on July 30: .801
Ops in August: around 1.250 with a .350 BA.
AB is white hot right now. I just don’t think any good player is a hot month away from getting a $100mil extension.
Would like to see how the rest of the year plays out, and maybe even the beginning of next year.
Just admit you were wrong and Shady was right.

Only drawback is his body
It will wear down quick after 30

If youre listening to offers, youre considering moving him. If you trade Burly, you're not getting a player who's ready to step in and play. Youre getting a player 2-3 years away. That is the Pirates. Always 2-3 years away.ecleme22 wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 15:59 pmI didn’t say ‘move’. As for him being white hot now ? thats why they stat players on a season, and not per month. All players get hot, and get cold. And yes, he is their best hitter.
As for waiting to see this year, and next? Thats where a GM either succeeds, or fails. Waiting could either save money, or price him right out of their budget. Tough call there for a GM. When to talk extension. Many backfire both ways. For a mid market team, they need to get it right. Few teams can afford a debacle like the Dodgers made with Kyle Tucker.

That’s presumptuous. We traded Matz for a player ready in 9 1/2 months. Not sure why trading a much better player means waiting 2-3 years.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 18:03 pmIf youre listening to offers, youre considering moving him. Does 18th out of 20 make him bad?? Or does it simply mean 17 are better defensively?craviduce wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 17:52 pmHe's far from "solid"...defensive metrics show this. come on...he's not good, he's not average...so he's well below average.RamFan08NY wrote: ↑17 Aug 2026 18:14 pmDoes 18th out of 20 make him bad?? We're fans, I'm guilty of it, too... playing well with the bat makes us overlook the bad, and add superlatives that aren't earned.
Really, Really good bat....average with the scoop on received throws, very bad on batted balls in his vicinity.
