Because Gibby was such a fierce competitor , there is a myth that he'd plunk a player ever time he was angry at the player. Gibson pitched a lot of innings. He averaged less that 5 HBP per season. Obrien has hit more than 5 in the past month.

Did you not attend any games in the sixties?I saw games where every single batter got thrown at, they were very good at dodging high and tight. Gibson often threw in and moved them off the plate. Drysdale was better at hitting guys. Koufax was a guy who seldom threw close. But it was expected and not sure when it slacked off as far as moving guys off the plate, but it became a lost art at some point. Tony liked his pitchers to hit them in the back or lower body, he did not like headhunting. But if his guys got hit a few times you knew somebody was getting hit.

The Cardinals pull that (bleep) every time they get a base hit. The faggy little wing flap after a single to cente field in the 3rd inning? The Cardinals outfielders doing a make believe jump shot at the end of a game? Really? A basketball reference in a baseball game?

Its players having fun, and fans pizzed that irs not their team having the fun. And please dont give me this Bob Gibson nonsense. What would he have done? He would have struck the guy out next time up. He didn't hit batters as much as we'd like to think he did.

I love a player who takes a July game as serious as a September game. I hated Willy Contreras for that when he was a Cub. Hated Will Clark for that when he was a Giant. I LOVED both of them doing that as a Cardinal. A game in May was just as important to them as a game in Octiber. What's wrong with that?

And yes, winning an NLCS game (or putting the team in position to clinch a WS), is a HELL OF A LOT DIFFERENT than a [fork]ing July game. I have no issue with players being excited and celebrating. Just saying sometimes a wakeup call should be sent. Teams still do it. This one doesn't.

Nope. Love it. We need more passion and excitement in the game to draw the younger crowd. I know most of you older gents hate it but the game has to adapt.

What may be ok for an 18 year old to see at the game might not be appropriate for an 8 year old or is that too complicated for you.

Its players having fun, and fans pizzed that irs not their team having the fun. And please dont give me this Bob Gibson nonsense. What would he have done? He would have struck the guy out next time up. He didn't hit batters as much as we'd like to think he did.

I love a player who takes a July game as serious as a September game. I hated Willy Contreras for that when he was a Cub. Hated Will Clark for that when he was a Giant. I LOVED both of them doing that as a Cardinal. A game in May was just as important to them as a game in Octiber. What's wrong with that?

And yes, winning an NLCS game (or putting the team in position to clinch a WS), is a HELL OF A LOT DIFFERENT than a [fork]ing July game. I have no issue with players being excited and celebrating. Just saying sometimes a wakeup call should be sent. Teams still do it. This one doesn't.

Hell, I saw Curt Simmons pitch for the Cubs and he only lasted 9 hitters and was taken out. He knocked down every Cardinal player once or some twice. Never got an out. But he tried the only way he could. Gibson owned the inside, he did not like digging in. Carlton did not throw inside much, he was a different kind of pitcher.

I've been watching the Cardinals since the 70s and I get the "old school / unwritten rule stuff"; but I've found I really don't care anymore. He was excited and yeah he's a bit of an (donkey); but so what? I've got better things to worry about that us going the Tony/Dusty route over it. Just my two cents.
