BUT
His recent struggles has changed my mind.
He may be better off staying at AAA until September call-ups, he even then.
If he's still having issues, then keep him down on the farm.
I have never seen him in person only on tape.
I still don’t get why some are so anxious to rush players?
Especially when they concede that we aren’t going anywhere?
Especially given the Cards issues, why would you want to bring a kid up (re: hitter) when the offense (sans Burly) is in a massive team slump and he's been in a long one too?
And you can only give a decent “look” to so many guys at a time.
Baez certainly figures to have a higher ceiling than Church/Torres/Velasquez/etc and his time is coming.
As much as I’m excited to see Baez let him progress at his own pace. As others have said he was in AA last year and before that he struggled.
LOL...the same people who want to push his call up are the SAME ones who will then (A female canine animal, especially a dog) if he struggles.
Then complain that he was rushed too soon.
By recent reports he does need more time.
One thing I learned about C. Bloom when doing my homework on him was he's a firm believer in only calling kids up from the minors when he feels they have the maximum chance to succeed! No panic callups from the new POBO and I like that.
Church is barely a major league player. Torres deserves to get a couple week's of starts in a row. He has the plate discipline to improve dramatically.
If he has one hot week he will be back over .800 OPS.
Church is terrible.
When does Baez get some runway?

A couple decades ago, sure. You need to keep up with how things are progressing and you won't make these laughable predictions.NotAFathersDay9871 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 01:40 am70 IQ sounds about right. FWIW I have always been a Torres guy. When Church came back. Oli basically has dropped Torres do the last position player spot.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 17:29 pmWasn’t Long ago people were singing praises for church saying he’s the answer for the center field prayers now people are want him replaced.Frivolousz50 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 00:02 amTorres has barely been given a chance. I'm not saying Torres is going to be an all star but he has put up back to back to back dominate all star+ caliber seasons at AA and AAA.
He has the plate discipline and experience to start every game versus right handed starting pitchers.
Oli has moved and perked Torres around since the middle of his second week with the club.
He was slumping a bit during his second week. I think because his first week he was robbed 3 times for hits. One of which would have been a triple.
He started to press and then Church came back and that was it. Torres got 2 starts a week.. a couple weeks only 1 start. He widowed struggled. They had lots of games that Oli pinched hit for Torres and NOT ONE of those pinch hitters were successful. Well move forward to about 10 days ago and Torres started taking pitches with more confidence. And he has been dynamite at the plate since then in very limited time. Which is very impressive.

Tanking teams do not want stud HR hitters.

Well, he has struggled a bit.
I wouldn't mind leaving him in Memphis and doing what they did with JJ this year. Shoot for the 2027 OD roster.

It is not as if Baez is beating the door down to get a promotion.

His runway is currently in Memphis. In the last 30 days he has .778 OPS there. When he can fly in Memphis , he can land in STL

It was nice to see that he had some initial struggles and was able to overcome them. Yes, he hits the ball very hard and very far. That is awesome. But pitchers adjust, and if they can do it at AAA and he struggles like this, then they will certainly do it at the MLB level.
