lol mo would continue to have faith in the outfielders they already have and not bring anyone from the outside so that’s far from a mo move it would be a jockety/Larussa move to bring in a veteran outfielder but Mos would be we like what we have don’t want to take at bats away from anyone and blah blah

Mo would throw an outfield of Nootbaar, Scott, and Walker and hope all made unrealistic improvements. He was a master at spending entire winters sticking his thumbs up his (donkey).

Mo was a genius until it ran out. He kept 3 million fans in the stadium with the promise of the next prospect was the real deal. Like most Cardinals fans, they ate up everything the Cardinals told them, because to disagree with their idols would be blasphemy. So most fans adopted whatever mentality Mo was throwing out there at the time.
Now they will adopt whatever Bloom throws out there. Hopefully Bloom produces.

Still doesn't change the fact that Mo typically hibernated every winter instead of making moves. He was a putz. His "success " was the result of Jocketty, LaRussa, Luhnow, and the great players they obtained.

Great idea! Pages would have a huge impact in the St. Louis OF for years! Big question: Would the Dodgers do it?

Well they certainly would be an even better team w/Tucker (money is no object for them), Donny and Noot as their 4th OFer.

I've been after Pages since last season, he'd be perfect to build out OF around and this could be our best shot landing him.

Unfortunately, we aren’t getting much for NA, so why not kill two birds with one stone and trade for NC? He has a higher upside than any of the FAs mentioned in the OP.

If dumping salary and not caring about winning in ‘26, why bother with bringing any new MLB bodies in? Play your young guys like last season
Why bring in May and pay him 12mil?
So they can win 75-80 games opposed to 65-70?

I’m not a big believer in rushing prospects to the big leagues. I actually think it’s detrimental in more than one way. A players psychology. The team burning through service time. The 40-Man Roster being consumed by someone not ready to produce.

So, maybe the thinking here allows a prospect to remain in the minors for further instruction/development?

The Cardinals just keep burning through players who they rush to the Bigs, have a promising season, burn out before they touch their Prime, then get picked up and produce at a lessened market value but in their primes for other teams (ref Luke Voit & Adolis Garcia)

Quite frankly if your going to put a guy out there for 3 to 10 mill per just because he has some experience, knowing full well he will be a .250ish, 10 to 15 HR guy at best, at best I say. Then your better off just throwing a Church, or Koperniak out there along with Noot, Scott and Walker and calling it a day. Save some money and see what you got. See who rises to the top considering this is a rebuild year. That is a Johnny Moz list all day long. I do hope Bloom has more sense than that. If he goes after a RHH OF then it needs to be via trade for someone controllable and you know is a legit player for a few years, no questions asked. Does not have to hit 30HR's but a .285, and 20 to 25HR's works. That can be had in a Donovan, Pallante, lower minors prospect deal.

And yes, numerous teams sign players to flip. See Maton last year.

Also, nothing is a guarantee. Ask the Mets.

IMO TP is very low hanging fruit that may have zero desire to be in St Louis. There more value to just keeping Lars and seeing if he increases his value

I’m not talking about flipping Pham. If he struggles, he can be released. It’s like the 2004 cards bringing in Roger Cedeno.

As far as having NCon the team and possibly flipping him….every offseason on CardsTalk I have to remind CTers how freaking long the mlb season is and how many innings pitched and plate appearances are required.

Assuming they trade for Arroyo, they don’t need to clear out the outfield options in order for him to get a large chunk of PT over 162 games.
