Was hoping the mariners would win. It’s a tough one between blue jays and mariners but I’m going with the mariners

Mariners now have to travel across the continent to play the Jays with a tired pitching staff. Good luck!

Was a good game. Seattle one series away. Final team to not have a WS appearance.

It was a stupid move.
And I told my wife it would backfire before Carpenter batted.
Remove a starter who has a low pitch count and who has been pitching brilliantly, in favor of a relief pitcher who is coming in cold, is likely to need a few pitches to get in rhythm, and who may or may not have his "A" stuff.
The known was a far smarter bet than the unknown and the risk factor was far greater than leaving Kirby in.
Data is extremely important, but this is a great example of common sense being sacrificed to common practice.
Maybe you missed game last Saturday, when Carpenter hit a 2 run bomb off Kirby? Perhaps you are unaware that Carpenter in his career is 4 for 8 off Kirby, with all 4 being HR, and 7 RBI???
Fully aware.
And fully aware Kirby was dominating the game.
And fully aware there is such a thing as pitching around a hitter in a key moment.
How did Carpenter do with Kirby out?

Either one over the Dodgers...or the Cubs if they win tonight.

Well put! …I don’t know if you possess the genius intellect you claim, but you do have your moments!
…I know, not about you, only the game Lol!
I am glad you enjoy a well-turned phrase!
"Common sense is often sacrificed to common practice" is indeed a good one.
And terrifically applicable to nearly every area of life.
That said, it did not originate with me.
Though a rarely used axiom, it is a very wise one which has been around for a long time.
Happy to share it here.

That was a good game to watch. More of a throwback game. A few bunts here and there (probably should have tried a few more but it's not a huge part of today's game). I was just happy to see a well played well pitched game. You can argue that they pulled skubal too early but 99 pitches is relatively high in this day and age unfortunately they are being trained to go 6-7 innings at most. I was also glad that it ended with a clean base hit not a fluke play like the Phillies/Dodgers game.

They get an off day or 2. Then another after Game 2. At this point in the year, the pitchers kind of expect to be out of the routine. It’s win or go home every series so they just put it all out there whenever it’s needed.

glad Seattle won.
I was wishing Flaherty would be the losing pitcher.
he tried, walking the first two he faced.
just don't like him much.

Like I posted earlier in this thread, it was the right move to bring in the lefty to pitch to Carpenter. Speier made a lousy pitch, and the hot Carpenter nailed it. I guarantee, that if Kirby pitched to Carpenter in this situation, and he gave up the HR, all the second guessers on this forum would have been all over Seattle mgr. Wilson.

Giving Carpenter an IW would have been an option, but the move Wilson made was not "stupid" as you put it.

I don't second guess.
I simply identify the right decision.
Had Kirby stayed in, and Carpenter had hit a HR (almost zero chance of that), my viewed would have been the same.
It was, in fact, a stupid decision.
As was lifting Skubal.
