Kruk walked in 10% of at bats, Burleson in 5% of the at bats-another Huge difference, Kruk was a .300 hitter, Burleson at .264
Burleson is a free swinger, who clogs up the bases, and is horrible at first and outfield, and I mean horrible
If you want to hit him 7th or 8th as a DH, he is barely tolerable
Why doesn’t somebody ride his behind to get in better shape
Theres no doubt shadys comparison js ridiculous, but your statement of barely tolerable for 7th or 8th is equally ridiculous. Burky has a .787 ops in a league with a
719 ops. His ops+ is 120 meaning burly is hitting 20% better than league average. No team has a lineup deep enough for that to be hitting 7th or 8th.
Burly is currently our best hitter and we rank near the middle of the pack in runs scored despite starting acott and pages with burly our best hitter. Not 30th.
Your expectations are just as delusional as shadys delusional burly obsession.
I'm not the only one that made that comparison. In fact, I got it from another poster. Wonder why nobody blasted that poster.
Because this is what that poster
actually said:
That’s like saying McGreevy is like Nolan Ryan w/o the fastball.
Or a shortstop is like Ozzie Smith w/o the defense.
Or Shady is like Stephen Hawking w/o the brain.

Why do you do this, Shady? Why? Seriously, what is off inside your head?
A Burleson inflatable is my guess. That, and a histrionic personality disorder.

lol is this seriously what he’s referencing?? John Kruk without the OBP? And he thinks that’s a flattering comparison?

Please list all the hitters the Cardinals organization has developed in the last ten years that are better hitters than Burleson.
That’s an indictment on a [shirt] run organization. Not an accomplishment or award for Alec Burleson. It does not mean he doesn’t suck too.

Here's the deal. There have been some players that big things were expected from them and they have underachieved. Thankfully, Burleson has overachieved when you compare the lofty hopes for some players compared to him. Maybe I over rate him. But not nearly as much as many under rate him here. You probably can't understand my position and I sure as hell can't understand your's. And yes, I feel, eventually, Burleson will be comparable to Kruk as an MLB hitter. Let's see how it plays out on the field.

For the years 2016-2025:
Player/wRC+
Tommy Pham: 123
Jose Martinez: 122
Brendan Donovan: 118
Matt Carpenter: 117
Lars Nootbaar: 113
Tyler O’Neill: 111
Stephen Piscotty: 107
Nolan Gorman: 104
Alec Burleson: 104
Kolten Wong: 100
Tommy Edman: 99
Harrison Bader: 98
Also worth noting that many of those other players contributed meaningful value (as opposed to destroying it) in the field and/or on the bases as well—they weren’t extremely one-dimensional, bat-only players.
Thanks for the list. However, none of the players you listed are clearly better pure hitters than Burleson. Carpenter, in his best years, maybe. And, I predict, Burleson, at only 26, will still improve. JMHO
Take that, NYCardsFan! With your lying historical data!

League average is “overachieving”? Was he supposed to suck?

Let's see how it plays out on the field.
But you assured us that Burleson was "the next Tony Gywnn / Joey Votto." In their age-26 seasons, Gwynn posted 6.2 fWAR (19.2 career), and Votto posted 6.9 fWAR (15.0 career). By comparison, Burleson is currently at 1.3 fWAR this year, on-pace for roughly 1.6-1.7 for the full season (and 1.5
total for his career). Is that overachieving or underachieving?
Fangraphs defines "role player" as 1-2 WAR--which is exactly where a lot of people on this forum thought Burleson would wind up. Fact is, so far they've been
MUCH closer to "right" than you.
As an aside, in his age-26 season, Kruk posted 3.5 fWAR (and 5.5 for his career-to-date).
And if you want to "see how it plays out on the field," then stop spamming the forum with repetitive, inane, attention-seeking threads about Burleson's alleged "potential" and let's wait to see some actual performance.

Mic dropped. However…he’s running to pick it right back up because if he goes a day without riding Burley’s nuts, his head will explode. It is a strange and troubling infatuation.

Why don't you and some of the other critics come up with more creative stuff? Then maybe I wouldn't get so bored and over do it with mine. I'll be watching for you and other gripers to demonstrate your/their brilliance. ex, Yorkie seldom creates an interesting OP. He just likes to pounce on others that try to. And he's not alone.

"Burleson is a free swinger".He use to be. He's much more selective now. Obviously, you haven't noticed. And he's not "horrible" at 1B or in LF or RF. Overreact much ? Should Tony Gwynn have tried to get in better shape? Some players are just a little chunky. No big deal. Wake up, pup !

He still under 8.0 BB rate, I believe.
Tony Gwynn was fine. Because he hit like .360.

Yeah but Tony Gwynn was fat, and Burleson is fat too, so Burleson will hit just like him.
