Pitchers aren't catching up to him, he's still a stud hitter.
IH had a little cold streak and has heated up again. He and Donovan are the best bats on the team along with WC. Bumbles has enough ABs in the bigs that we can see who he is. A serviceable platoon player who is best suited to DH and 1B. Ride him when he is on a hot streak and put him back in the part time role when he cools off. Not that hard to see. IH plays every day somewhere....

I think Burly will be a piece this winter in any big deals C. Bloom makes.
If traded this off-season. It would be fun to see Burly playing for the Cubs through his prime years. He'd do quite well playing many games at Wrigley. Maybe at least one All Star selection.
If Burleson were on a Cubs team like this one he might PH and get a spot start each week.
Alec Burleson and Matt Adams are a really good comp, Alec is 10 years younger, they play the same positions and Alec currently has roughly half as many PA’s as Matt, I would not say Matt Adams was a good ballplayer, he was alright and if it wasn’t for his little playoff success and his HR’s off of prime Clayton Kershaw then I’d say he is almost forgettable, Matt Adams never won any awards and only had 1 full season, and after age 28 he never played in more than 121 games and he did that once!

Interesting comp. Adam had some serviceable seasons with the bat, but lacked positional value. The Cardinals dealt Adams to the Braves for Juan Yepez. Then later released Yepez.

Oli said today (on Gas House Gang) that Burleson deserves all the playing time he's getting and going to get this season because he's taken advantage of opportunities given to him.

So other players that need playing time to develop will pound sand while Burly gets more starts. They have to get fit in to the lineup. OK.

In the end Bloom will have to make the decision for Oli, or whoever is the manager in 2026. Clear the clog of 1B /DH.

Burly has had a nice season and I hope he increases his perceived value. But I'd trade Burly in a heartbeat in a package that brings back a quality starting pitching prospect this off season.

Did this become about Burly because Herrera threatens Burlys spot on the roster? Herrera has also taken advantage of opportunity.

There is actually room for decent LH and RH hitters in the lineup. But if push comes to shove, trade Burly. Keep Herrera.

Herrera has a higher OPS now than AB will ever have.
He's better than Burleson - I said that.
Sorry, I should've said: By a lot.

Herrera is more than a 'few ticks' better.
I guess the biggest difference in these two players is I wouldn't trade Herrera.
+1
Keep Herrera. Trade Burleson. Take the connoli.

Who has the most trade value? Burleson, Nootbaar, Walker or Gorman? Actually, I'm guessing Burleson has about the trade value of Herrera. Burleson is a pure hitter. Most managers really like having pure hitters in the their lineup. Some of you just don't get it.

Managers like hitters who have positional ability and flexibility. Burly has done well to be passable in OF. He can also play a decent 1B.

Herrera is just a better athlete a showing to be a pure hitter. He can play OF and will just get better

I'd say Noot still has highest trade value. Burly to the right team that has a spot and need for LH hitter.

Walker is still an intriguing prospect to teams. Gorman shows flashes but is trailing. Both of these guys ought to be playing as much as possible to show what they can be. IFF they can be,...

I honestly don't need WC to get bulk of ABs at 1B if Oli needs Burly to play. I don't need Saggese over Gorman at 3B right now.

“Actually,” you’re way off base—as usual.

Per BTV:
Herrera: 29.2
Burleson: 15.8

If I’m Chaim Bloom, at this season’s end, I would have private conversations with Nado and WC, asking each of them to waive their NTCs. We need 1B and 3B open in 2026 for the big tryout competition.

+1 on this. Need a suitor for Nado. (Rockies?). WC should be easier to move. Be open to trading with the Brewers.

P.S. Scott sits today. Burly, Herrera, Walker, Gorman in the lineup. Sit WC tomorrow against Ohtani?

I wasn't "off base" on projecting Burleson's hitting potential when you, craviduce and many others were poopooing the thought of it. The BTV's of Herrera and Burleson confirm that Herrera is slightly overated and Burleson is slightly underated.

Based on what? Your gut feeling? Please tell us appropriate trade values for each.

Obviously Burleson is 100,000,000 and Herrera should be 0.

Burleson eyes strikes going by and his bat rests on his chubby shoulder. PFFFFT.
