Would probably have to sweeten the pot with more than a 2 month rental.
No probably to it- that's a given.
The question then becomes what else can the "power hitting prospect" do? Gorman fits the description of a young power hitting player but he strikes out too much and has too low of an obp and avg for my liking. Is that what we are looking for?

No. As you say, we have that.

thats exactly what you'll get but the rub is ya have to help develope them. they started that in this last offseason with Gorman and Walker, so I'd like to see how that works out. Gorman's game yesterday is a good example.. 2 hot shots to the opposite field.
keep doing that and he works out just fine

The Tigers player I mentioned earlier in this thread- Josue Briceno has the power being asked for and the contact ability you are hoping for.

Then you are talking a big time hitter prosepect. Helsley, Hence maybe Burleson or Donovan might get you that player whoever he is. You aren't going to steal a play like that very often.

I don't mind taking a chance on him but coupla things:
- that's what they said Walker was in the minors
- we are already overflowing with 1B/DH types
- what does it take to get him?

Of course that's what was said about Walker. The thread is about Mo going out and getting a power hitting prospects. That's the nature of a prospect. They aren't sure things. This is a very good prospect. He might not make it. If he does make it, his profile is such that you don't care where he plays. He plays and you're glad you've got him.

With the 5th pick, the team should go best player available. Position shouldn't matter.

No they wouldn’t.

Winn might get us one. Or packaging Burly and Hence might.

You just can’t get really great prospects for rental’s any more. Doesn’t work that way.

2 things - not sure on Gorman. He’s been hot and cold for 4 years now. Likely he never learns the consistency we need. Like TO.

Second aboit development- what about the guys like Incavilia or Griffey that don’t even need the coaching? They just arrive ready and are too good to fail and smart enough to figure it all out intuitively in real time.

How do we get those players?

I'd settle for trading for a young prospect that can hit like Pozi. Maybe a young outfielder that also has some speed.

draft super high or identify talent better than other teams (Trout anyone?)

Then the price to pay is probably too much. Acquire a guy with power and try to change him. The apparently tried the opposite with Walker. He was good as a rookie but then sent him down to change him to a power hitter. Now he can't do either.
