Boy did that suck. laurie's nitwit counsel who hated Pronger because he wouldn't sign memorablia showed him by forcing a trade claiming it would make the franchise more attractive to buyers. That's what you get when you have Walton hillbillies run the show or more correctly losers who marry into the family. Things would have been a lot different if we had held on to him. Didn’t that deal eventually lead to Binnington? Silver lining

Everything happens for a reason. If we’d have kept him who knows? We don’t get Binner and maybe we’re still looking for a Cup. As far as best player we’ve ever had? I still gotta go with Hull. That’s not dismissing Pronger in any way either.

What would it take for you to quit using that old phrase?
Will you take Dags and a 3rd?

It’s not dumb. In fact every bit of evidence (factual) shows that not a single player since 2018 who’s signed a contract with a cap hit representing more than 12% of the teams total cap has won a Stanley Cup.Wattage wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 12:11 pmThe reason the oilers dont have depth isnt ciz of mcdavids cap hit, its cuz of ridiculous contract of 9.5 million to nurse who plays like a 3rd dman( and they are stuck with that for long time), them paying a 2mil + cap hit from buying out jack campbell, from them letting us take holloway over 2.3 mil while theyve handed out 3 mil 3mil and 4 mil to henrique jeff skinner and arvidsson for them to play like garbage or be healthy scratched.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025 16:10 pm So much to unpack here, but foremost Edmonton and McDavid may have likely just closed the window together and individually for a cup.
If this is McDavids stance, there isn’t another team in the league that can afford what McDavid is going to ask for and support a competitive team around him. That Edmonton group was about as close as anyone was ever going to get with his cap hit.
Likewise there isn’t going to be a team in the league with cup aspirations that is going to trade the package required to get him and then pay him his number.
It’s never been more obvious that cups are won now with extreme depth.
The destinations willing to commit the % of cap to him alone are the teams looking to build a fanbase vs. win a cup.
Just look across the ice at Florida where you’re likely going to see heroes like Bennett, Marchand and ekblad take pay cuts to stay with a team and win more cups.
Point being, its dumb to act like mcdavids and drais contract has been the problem for them and their depth. Its not. The reason they dont have depth is cuz they made loads of other questionable moves and contracts over the years.
Now they reportedly are trying to lock frederick up for 8 years at nearly 4 mil when his best season of his career is 18 goals 40 points and he didnt even play close to even that level this year and was invisible in playoffs
Literally every single player that has signed a contract for over 12% of the cap has never won a cup since.
Even further, the ONLY player to play in a cup final with a cap hit over 12% of the total cap has been Mr. McDavid.
That means, knowing the cap increases to 104M in 2026-27, a smart GM wouldn’t commit more than 12-13M McDavid.
Hes going to demand 18-20M or 17-19% of the cap, which is absurd and detrimental to any teams cup aspirations.

What was more detrimental? Mcdavids contract? Or.nurses contract?. Paying 2+ mil on campbell- tak I ng henrqique for 2, skinner for 3mil who was healthy scratch most time- arvidson 4mil as part time healthy scratch while lettjng holloway go for 2.3 mil.WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 16:53 pmIt’s not dumb. Which moves are really.more detrimental?
As to the 12 % cap argument. The sample size is small just because there arent many players that makenover 12% of a teams cap so of clurse there wont be teams with one on their roster since so few even exist. And even fewer who in any way came close to justifying it. Mcdavid is good enough to justify it.
The other contracts are way more wasted money than mcdavids.
Lastly, id agree i wouldnt pay 20 mil for mcdavid. But hes gonna get nowhere near that. He will ask for it. But wont get it. He i stead will take a max term deal for a lower rate.
Re: Edmonton Post Season Interview McDavid "With that being said"
The Oilers are done for a while if they sign McD anywhere near retail....and very likely done if they don't sign him short of trading him for a boatload.
What's Brouchard want?
And what would their team outlook be with Holloway and Bro still on their roster??
The wheels are always turning in this league.

Re: Edmonton Post Season Interview McDavid "With that being said"
So the Blues are triple done after the biggest choke in their history to a team that lost to a team that was demolished by the Oilers. You quote a lot.

Always finding a way to post something negative about the Blues on a Blues message board. Why am I not surprised?

Well said, WW. Perfect example is the 2019 St. Louis Blues. No superstars, but 4 strong lines, big tall defensemen who could play defense and also contribute to offense, and a hot at the perfect time goalie. For those of you who say we had superstars, Pietrangelo and Tarasenko are borderline in my book, but not quite superstars.
Re: Edmonton Post Season Interview McDavid "With that being said"
Agree but would add ROR played like a superstar/franchise player that year and Binnington's performance wasn't that far behind. Certainly no first ballot HOFers though.Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025 19:28 pm“It’s never been more obvious that cups are won now with extreme depth.”WilliamWestcliffe wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025 16:10 pm So much to unpack here, but foremost Edmonton and McDavid may have likely just closed the window together and individually for a cup.

Back to the topic - IMO, McDavid would at least consider us if he were to become available by trade or free agency. I don't think we would get him but I think the structure/depth of this team, his buds that are already here and the direction of the organization that he would at least give St. Louis a legitimate look.
Re: Edmonton Post Season Interview McDavid "With that being said"
I was on FB and a post asked the question...
At what point do we start calling McDavid a choker?
And it got me thinking and wondering....can we do it now?
....how bout NOW!
