You build around that core.
Gorman & Walker could force their way in but thus far they haven't.
Can Herrera catch a fly ball in LF?
I got slammed for suggesting he be moved to the OF a while ago GF, but yes I think he could make the move.
BUT
He can also be the full time DH and they can stop WASTING PA's on the useless Baker and Bumbles who s u c k.

And yet they send Saggese (.341 .364 .512 .876) down to Memphis instead of using him as the DH until Hererra returns.

In my adulterated mind, I feel the only reason to send him down is to get regular pro at bats. Although against AAA pitching, many of the mechanics are the same.
Also maybe when he is called up, he will face much AAA plus starters at ML level.
Any of that drivel make sense.

Pathetic
Since the 2024 All-Star break Bumbles has:
4 HR's and a .321 slg%
Memphis or throw in if/when they make a midseason trade

Not a good reason for them to do that BDog even though you're spot on as to why they did it.
As I've pointed out a couple of times Oli could've easily:
-Played Saggese at 3rd base one game a week to give NADO a day off to keep him fresh
-Played Saggese at SS one game a week to give Winn a day off to keep him fresh
-Played Saggese at 2B one game a week to give Donny a day off (or slot Donny in LF)
-Played Saggese at DH one game a week
Those 16+ PA's in MLB are more valuable to his growth than 20-24 PA's at Memphis would ever be.
Instead they keep a useless L. Baker who can't hit at DH (.231 .333 .269 .603).
Dumb organization that will only get smarter when C. Bloom takes over (and Oli is gone).

Your summary is one of your best. Many available at bats. And this doesn’t count- pinch hitting, starting at second, pinch running, and defensive replacement.

Winn, Scott, Donovan. Maybe Noot and Herrera. They are a fine core…can be your 1,2, 5,6,7 hitters for years. But without true middle of the order bats to go with them it doesn’t matter much. If Gorman and Walker don’t figure it out in a big way this season Bloom is going to have to spend big money to field a contending team. Hope he does.
Yep, exactly. And nothing wrong with that. Teams SHOULD have a couple of big money bashers in their lineup.
I think Walker and Gorman can't be counted on to become that. Bloom is going to have to spend some money on a couple of pieces. If Walker and Gorman end up becoming that, then just a bonus.
Add a couple of Kyle’s - Tucker and Schwarber - and the offense competes with anyone. Who makes up the starting rotation? Do Gorman or Walker have enough value left to net a decent starting pitcher?
Noot LF
Contreras 1B
Tucker RF
Schwarber DH
Herrera C
Donovan 2B
Saggesse 3B
Scott Cf
Winn Ss
SP: Gray, Pallante, Libby, ???, ???
Yeah!!!! Tucker would be awesome!!!! I wouldn't complain about Schwarber either, but would prefer to spend big on another corner infielder, not necessarily a DH. Pitching-wise I'd like to see Gray, Liberatore (if he continues this transformation), Pallante, McGreevy, and Mathews. May have to spend on a top end SP as well.

Eventually we have to move a middle infielder. We should be getting Saggese all the at bats we possibly can. Build his value/find out what you have. The B boys are useless.

Yep. Wasn’t Gorman “untouchable” a couple of years ago??
I get why people are excited about Winn,Scott and Herrera. However, let’s see them get through 2 years of full time play.
Need to let the league attack their weaknesses and see how they adjust. Gorman and Walker fighting through it now.

Herrera has had ABs in 4 years now

Albeit 2 of those were really SSS and the other one was half a season’s worth of PAs. But his OPS has gone up each season, which is promising.
I like the way that Winn has come back from his really slow start this year.

MLB gives teams a position in the lineup where the ONLY thing the player does is HIT…..and these morons insert a player who is not much better than the Pitcher he’s replacing. No need to worry about his D or anything else just HIT the ball.
Without a doubt the most stubborn stupid organization in all of MLB and possibly all pro sports….

Herrera has 305 ABs in his career. Just a bit more than 1/2 of a full season. Promising yes. Let’s see what it looks like sometime next season.
Agree about Winn. I also like Saggese’s game. Need to get him some regular PT to see what he can become.
