Re: Check out this mammoth blast by Joshua Baez
Glad to see Baez picking it up. Bit of a slow start in AAA.
As excited as I am to see him I hope they don’t rush it.
Right now the main guys are Walker/Scott/Church.
Then we’ll see looks from Fermin& Saggese.
All of these guys need looks.
Then the points about Noot are well taken.
Whether he stays or goes at the deadline he will need to play.
Earliest for Baez would be after the deadline or September.
There is zero downside to him staying at Memphis.

From what I know C. Bloom likes Church, not sure what he thinks about VSII.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 14:16 pmI agree on Baez he may not even be called up this year they may do him like they did JJ and not call him up let him make the team out of spring training. You could be right about church replacing Scott in center when noot returns don’t know about that though on St. Louis sports central the guys said some in the organization are very high on church and there’s some in the organization who are very high on Scott so i guess it will come down to who bloom is higher on although oli could get both players plenty of playing of time if he wants torockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 14:02 pmLikely they give VSII the bulk of the time in CF until Noot returns, Church in LF.Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 13:48 pmAre you then OK with Scott in CF for the next 4-6 weeks? Who do you see as the starting outfield come July 1 and beyond that this season ?rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 13:30 pmLF or CF, I'd like to see him get that run until Noot returns.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 13:06 pmOr, maybe it's a good time to give Church a run of 4-6 weeks in LF and see if he can hit lefties and righties?rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 13:03 pmSaggese, like Pages, is yet another of Oli's "guys".........pitiful the way he takes to players who are J.A.G.Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 12:05 pmYes, Prieto could serve in Saggese's current role. He would also give the Cardinals a fine lefty bat off the bench. However, Marmol might still want Saggese's RH bat in LF against LHP. At least for now, until Baez is ready.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 12:02 pmNope, JJW stays at 2nd base accept in an emergency situation.Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 11:53 amAs bad as Saggese has been offensively. Currently, his position with the Cardinals is the backup SS to Winn. You don't mess with the future Gold Glove 2B, Wetherholt, by taking him away from 2B to cover at SS.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 11:18 amThat would be my move too, he has no position here.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 11:00 amMy opinion, TS.rockondlouie wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 10:56 am
+1
Then it's bye-bye Saggese who heads to Memphis or could it be VSII?
Getting PA's at Memphis could up his trade value, although he's likely nothing more than a toss in when C. Bloom deals D. May, Noot, and/or JoJo.
C. Prieto (.321 .371 .568 .939) can easily be recalled from Memphis if they want to send Saggese down.
Fermin can also be sent down too, Pozo could easily be released.
Saggese has no RH bat, he reeks .180 .241 .220 .461.
Until Noot returns, Fermin should get playing time in LF if Church bumps VSII fron CF.
Stop wasting games w/Saggese or Fermin in LF.
If he's still struggling, then Church could slide over to CF if he's still hitting better than VSII.
July 1st:
Noot
Church
Walker
I don't think Baez is even considered until Noot is dealt.
We would have a better handle on Church if Oli would just ink him in at LF until Noot returns, giving him AB's vs both LHP & RHP.
Unfortunately VSII hasn't progressed like we hoped, I thought he could at least get to a .315+ OB% and steal 40 bases but that doesn't appear to be in the cards.
I also wonder why he's not running more when he finally does get on first base.

Ideally, Nootbaar will come back and prove he's healthy and plays well enough to be traded at the deadline for pitching help. Bloom will likely need to add another player or two to get a pitcher that can help right away. Also, in the ideal scenario. is Baez then being ready for a promotion to the Cardinals. It seems fairly possible for this scenario to play out.

"Ideally" is such a subjective term. You and I want to see different things happen. To me, ideally, they would deal with the promotion of Baez just as they did with Wetherholt.Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 15:57 pm Ideally, Nootbaar will come back and prove he's healthy and plays well enough to be traded at the deadline for pitching help. Actually, your suggestion is palatable. Unless, Bloom decides Baez's bat can really help win the division this season already.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 16:01 pm"Ideally" is such a subjective term. Here's the thing. Last season, there wasn't as much of a positional need to bring Wetherholt up. As there might be this season with Baez in the outfield.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 16:07 pmC'mon Shady.Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 16:04 pmActually, your suggestion is palatable. Re: Check out this mammoth blast by Joshua Baez
If Noot is healthy and plays well why trade him. There is no real depth in the outfield positions to take his place. Real stretch to think Baez is ready at this point.Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 15:57 pm Ideally, Nootbaar will come back and prove he's healthy and plays well enough to be traded at the deadline for pitching help. There's not much power in the outfield, other than Walker, even with Nootbaar coming back. Baez could be a serious home run threat later in the season.Jatalk wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 16:12 pmIf Noot is healthy and plays well why trade him. Oh I agree but I don’t know where power is coming from to replace Noot. I know you’re high on Baez and maybe you are right. He has to cut down on strikeouts are we have a version of Gorman ( early on).Shady wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 16:13 pmThere's not much power in the outfield, other than Walker, even with Nootbaar coming back. Cuse do you have any idea what real MLB talent looks like?? You could combine Scott, Church, Fermin, Saggesse into one giant JAG and they still wouldn’t have the raw explosive game changing talent of Baez. You really need more LOOKS at Scott, Saggese??? Church and Fermin are good backups but aren’t starters. The DOWNSIDE to Baez is staying in Memphis is he’s hitting HR there and not STL while Oli plays his favorite JAG rotation game.
This isn’t difficult
Play the BEST Talent
Play Starters
Win baseball games
Secondary goals to filter in during the season after the 3 above being 1a, 1b, 1c………at 10, 11, 12 are
REST
Keep bench viable

Don't disagree with your assessment of the talent, but you are willfully out of touch with the process the team has undertaken. It will cause you daily unhappiness.Goldfan wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 16:46 pm“All these guys need looks”Cusecards wrote: ↑24 Apr 2026 14:18 pm Glad to see Baez picking it up. Bit of a slow start in AAA.

I just present facts…..my daily happiness quotient has nothing to do with what I type on CT.
If you haven’t noticed I tend to get a little JOY out of needling these over the top melodramatic clueless types who seem to think this comical forum is some sort of mental health indicator.
