opinions on MLBTR are not those of MLBTR.
MLBTR is like a clearinghouse, providing info they hear from local writers mostly.
for instance, usual articles about the Cardinals quote Derrick Goold

While Scott Boras has his headquarters in Newport Beach, which sits about 50 miles south of Los Angeles in Orange County, Alex Bregman has no ties to southern California. Bregman is from Albuquerque and has lived most of his professional life in Houston, with a recent stint in Boston.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 11:33 amIt would just depend on how the deal plays out, what other players are involved from both teams.DwaininAztec wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 11:20 amHow about Sloan and SundstromHoosier59 wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 11:07 amFor me it starts with Sloan, and ends there if they refuse to include him.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 10:27 am They would be my third or fourth choice, but they do have a good farm system and could put together a very good package for Donovan- if they would. They are notorious prospect hoarders.
I just wish the Bregman thing would get decided! I sick and tired of him holding everything up, for two years now!
I really don’t understand the infatuation with him either? He's not worth the money he's asking for, and he's shown he has no team loyalty, it’s all about the money! The next team to give him an opt out is going to see him do just that!
To me, for the money it will cost to sign him, there are a lot better options available! Bregman and Boras just love all the attention they’re getting and get a big kick out of holding everything else up. I wish every team would just move on to other things and leave them both dangling in La La Land!

Sure sounds from Mariners insiders, the fans want Donovan very much but they are concerned Boston may get him due to Bloom former ties there making him more familiar with their minor league players .
Might get Seattle to up their offer to Bloom ?

Divish writes that the M’s are willing to move top pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje in a package for Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan but are less inclined to trade anyone from the big league roster to get him.
The problem with Cijntje is he walks far too many batters. If he can find the strike zone he could become a good MLB pitcher.

I bet we add someone to Donovan to get more than cijintje alone.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 21:13 pm Divish writes that the M’s are willing to move top pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje in a package for Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan but are less inclined to trade anyone from the big league roster to get him.

The best thing in all of this is Bloom seems to be doing sue diligent. I’m thinking he will get the best return available. We lose a real ML player, for potential.
Unless in my book we truly make out in the deal then no deal. I can better utilize him in STL and try again bear the deadline.

Re: Mariners seem to be the trade partner for Donovan--Is that good or bad
All along I've thought of a Donovan trade as being for a pitching prospect and a hitting prospect. We've taken on several pitchers this winter (and we needed to), but it seems needful to pull at least one hitting prospect this offseason.
Question:
Would you trade Donovan to the Mariners for Sloan and Cijntje because the return is good and sort it out later, or would you insist on at least one hitter?

With the #4/#5 type starters we've now added, we should definitely send Pallante or Leahy to them as a 6th starter/swing man if it helps get the deal done. Right now, we have 7 starters penciled into the rotation, although all 3 of the Boston guys have injury issues.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑29 Dec 2025 17:17 pm I'm not relying on mlb trade rumors for cutting edge information, but if the info in your link is true, and they feel like they should add a sixth starter/longman, I would LOVE for them to have Pallante.

Cijntje not as a future ace, but as a future reliever. LH AND RH--pitch every day
