Should be a solid upside signing. Probably 1 yr./$10 million plus IP incentives for another $5 million and maybe a team option in 2027 for $20 million.

Both were old, but had pitched multiple 200 inning seasons. We only had $35 million of contracts, so there isn’t much financial risk. I don’t see much upside though.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:39 pmHe's 28 and has upside. How old were Gibson and Lynn when we signed them? “ After scuffling through 19 appearances with L.A., he battled injuries and poor performance with the Red Sox. May set career highs in innings (132 1/3) and games (25) last season, but posted an unsightly 4.96 ERA with an xFIP and SIERA in the mid-4.00s.”
There is a mutual option for 2027, as confirmed by Derrick Goold.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:41 pm Should be a solid upside signing. Probably 1 yr./$10 million plus IP incentives for another $5 million and maybe a team option in 2027 for $20 million.
Also, last year was the first year back after the flexor tendon surgery, even though it was done in 23, he had the esophagus tear in 24. So one would expect his numbers to not be the greatest in his first year back pitching.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:39 pmHe's 28 and has upside. You are looking at the upcoming season completely wrong. I wasn’t implying that Lynn and Gibson were good signings. May seems like he could be a solid relief pitcher, but not much more.Banner29 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:46 pmAnd out of baseball the very next season.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:42 pmBoth were old, but had pitched multiple 200 inning seasons. That seems awful high for the mutual option. I doubt the $15 million in first year too seems high. We will know shortly. We definitely have payroll room.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:41 pm Should be a solid upside signing. 28 years old with a higher ceiling. Was considered one of the best starters coming through the Dodgers system. If he can stay healthy, could be above Libby in the rotation.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:36 pmHow is May any better than Lynn or Gibson?cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 15:49 pmAgreed. Unfair to say really. He’s only 28 and had 2 straight years of injury. Your point? Liberatore had a high of 86 until last year. May was severely injured for many of his years in the MLB, so of course his innings would be low. May pitched 132 innings last year while Liberatore pitched 150 innings last year. No reason that May cannot build on his 132 if his health allows.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:45 pmHe had never pitched more than 56 innings before last season.zuck698 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:43 pmAlso, last year was the first year back after the flexor tendon surgery, even though it was done in 23, he had the esophagus tear in 24.
