High upside. Zero downside. Team is not going to contend in 2026. This is exactly the types of guys they should be signing.Swuhgen wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:02 pmI’m fine with it. Love it.
But why would you love it?

Re: Dustin May
Good signing. Probably need a veteran reliever or 2. I am guessing they are done signing SPs unless they think they are getting a deal.
1. Liberatore
2. May
3. McGreevy
4. Fitts
5. Leahy/Pallante
They then have a bunch of guys at Memphis, Mathews, Henderson, Mautz, etc that can be the next man up.

Re: Dustin May
I like the signing, but he pitched to a >5 ERA after the All Star break last year. Why would it have been good to give anything up to trade for him to get that performance in August/September when we're getting him now for just a one year show-me salary deal?
Re: Dustin May
Any reliever they bring in should be capable of multiple innings/spot starts. That rotation is at HIGH risk of not being able to pile up innings. The bullpen could be toast by July if they don’t properly prepare for that.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:20 pm Good signing. Probably need a veteran reliever or 2. I like the May signing and the high reward/low risk behind it, I’d just like to see them add another guy that could pile on some innings

Re: Dustin May
I expect them to bring in another starter. From everything I've read from the local writers, to what Bloom himself has said, says that they planned on bringing in at least one, but probably two starters.Banner29 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:27 pmAny reliever they bring in should be capable of multiple innings/spot starts. May
Liberatore
McGreevy
Fitts
Leahy
Pallante

Sign one more that's pretty good depth, at least for what we're trying to do this year.
Re: Dustin May
Now go get Walker Beuhler and let them piggyback the first half of the season

How is May any better than Lynn or Gibson?cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 15:49 pmAgreed. In the past, guys like Lynn and Gibson would have never gotten us much at the deadline. I'd much rather sign guys like May, especially for the upcoming season or 2, who could pay off huge at the deadline. Never understood why Mo didn't do this.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 15:43 pm+1 definitely beats signing a guy like mikolas who has limited upsidecardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 15:41 pm I'm a big fan of finally signing guys that can be dealt at the deadline if they turn in a strong 1st half. If he stinks, it's just a 1 year deal, so nothing lost.
“ After scuffling through 19 appearances with L.A., he battled injuries and poor performance with the Red Sox. May set career highs in innings (132 1/3) and games (25) last season, but posted an unsightly 4.96 ERA with an xFIP and SIERA in the mid-4.00s.”

He's 28 and has upside. How old were Gibson and Lynn when we signed them? Both had limited to no upside.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 16:36 pmHow is May any better than Lynn or Gibson?cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑13 Dec 2025 15:49 pmAgreed.
