You are right that it doesn't matter what btv says. What matters is what Buster Posey and Chaim Bloom say. But it's amazing how close these trades add up in the end. And JFI it looks like Mathews has a higher btv than Clarke.Shady wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 20:15 pmPlug in Mathews instead of Clarke. No matter what the btv says.2ninr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 20:10 pmJust for fun- I don't have btv but I can google my way around it. Eldridge is 51 ish Donovan 32 ishcraviduce wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 20:00 pmSo....Devers is blocking Eldridge at DH...but not 1B? And they have a need for Donovan. And then the talk of them assessing value, but not actively looking to move Eldridge is to maintain the position of strength in trade talks?2ninr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:55 pmHere's a nice article out of San Fran.craviduce wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:50 pmreally? Nice...okay, so this speculation is making a bit more sense now2ninr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:46 pmMLBTR said they are "listening" on him, whatever that means. To me that means you have to make their ears perk up, just like the thought of getting Eldridge makes ours. Donovan, Clarke, and one of the catching prospects besides Rodriguez should do that.craviduce wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:24 pmwe have a HUGE need for RHP, CF, Corner OF, 3B and 1B....basically all Power Hitting positions. And RH hitters at that.2ninr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:13 pmWhen I think about it awhIle, I like Rainel better than Clarke. Do it. But now we have to run down some more pitching prospects. I do know I'm a lot happier with a legit power prospect.craviduce wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 19:02 pmLHP is so clogged in our organization right now, it's our greatest strength. Clarke's ceiling is fantastic, but his floor is a huge drop off...just like Doyle...Reliever. Unlike Doyle, Clarke has major health concerns. I'm not married to Clarke...I can let him go if it's for the likes of Eldridge.2ninr wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 18:58 pmBryce Eldridge would be a real get. But if we give up Clarke instead of getting another top pitching prospect for Donovan, we're going backwards. Is there another way? Donovan and Rainiel for Eldridge? No other pitching prospect.
It's a process, you have move several chess pieces to get where you need to get...and along the way, a prospect, that you didn't think about, comes into his own (Mautz 2025), and a younger hitter or pitcher on the MLB roster improves tremendously (here's hoping it's Gorman, Walker or Graceffo for example).
We're not done yet, not by a long shot.
I agree 100% on the pitching angle, I do...but if a guy who may strikeout a bit, but still hit for decent average and knocks the mess out of the ball comes along and you can get him...then do it. We need power hitters. In a bad way.
The problem there is we don't know if he's available...I don't know. This could all be Cards fans dreaming.![]()
.
Part with Crooks or Bernal....rather it be Crooks. Bernal calls and receives a terrific game (see the entire 2025 Springfield pitching staff if anyone needs convincing), and his out crouch to release time is top notch. Better arm. I'd keep Bernal over Crooks.

Maybe I'm overanalyzing this....and Eldridge probably isn't involved in talks with Donovan acquisition...who knows? I'm with Talkin'Baseball...I can't see anything other than Dakota Jordan as a "want" from the Cards position. I'd pass if the talks didn't include Eldridge.
Crooks and Clarke would make it a slight overpay. So it isn't a stupid offer. Now they just have to say yes.

Eldridge is the type of return you dream about for Donovan. Don't know how much we'd have to add but maybe Mautz or Henderson. Matthews would be too much imo

Actually any of those three plus Donovan would be a good deal for the Cardinals.billybaseball wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 21:30 pm Eldridge is the type of return you dream about for Donovan. Don't know how much we'd have to add but maybe Mautz or Henderson. Matthews would be too much imo

you wish Gorman would have career #WaltsSuccessor wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 18:28 pmAdam Dunn was ahead of his time. Henderson/Pallante, I would be all over that. They need help at C, 2B, OF, SP, and depth of any kind. Then you have to hope the kid isn't Adam Dunn.
Adam Dunn 2.0 just got 5 years/$150m from the Phillies today…
If the NL had the DH back then, people would be debating his HOF credentials.
That was some crazy Adam Dunn hate in that post. We WISH Gorman would turn into poor man’s Adam Dunn.

weird.
I remember a pop up on the infield that you could drink
a beer before it came down. 8 seasons with 38 or more HR's out of 14
500+ guy with the DH, imo

Difficult for me to understand Buster. They make deals like they have depth. They'll probably up the payroll to near $200M
Easy to see Donovan having appeal with his versatility and low pay.
I wonder if Contreras has appeal at C. Buster leans toward proven
